Casa Torre del Cornone

It consists of a number of buildings located in the southernmost corner of the town of Fontecchio, “hanging” over the ancient city walls. The buildings are built around the small tower Torre del Cornone. From the tower’s arrow slits and small windows, it is possible to see all the towers on a row and the medieval villages along River Aterno Valley. This tower was part of a communication system, which made it possible to send and receive messages and alarms from one village to the other to announce the arrival of enemies or storms.

Around the tower, a nice garden on the walls offers a breathtaking view on the fields and forests along and around the valley underneath. We can rent three rooms/apartments with two beds each, and independent entrances, to guests and travellers. From August 2006, our rooms and apartments will be provided with fully equipped kitchenettes, available to our guests. One of these mini-apartments is hosted in the picturesque Seventeenth century tower “Torre del Cornone” with its steep stair and many windows facing the valley.
At upper floors, overhanging the walls, there are two more apartments, with two rooms each, and a big and comfortable kitchen with a beautiful old fireplace.

Five rooms are provided with private bathroom, and the other two rooms share the use of a comfortable bathroom.
All rooms have kept their original floors with clay tiles or wood, wooden ceilings with the original beams, or vaults with plastered clay bricks.
To renovate wall plaster, we used the old technique with lime coloured with yellow ochre, red or light blue earth.
