La Palombara (“dovecote”), as it is called by the locals, was the refuge of doves that had once lived in the ruins of the village church and its belfry. In 1999 the Bartoli family decided to transform these 18th-century ruins into an agriturismo with an antique flavour. Where the stables used to be there is now a charming restaurant, designed with great attention to detail.

Chestnut wood is the common thread running through every room in the house, and the atmosphere is enchanting. The soft lights, straw-bottomed chairs, bare stone and tufa help give a traditional touch to every corner of the house, where guests can enjoy pleasant moments in company.

On summer evenings guests can relax under the large outdoor patio, enjoying the cool air with a chilled glass of wine, waiting for mamma Giuliana’s aperitivo, a freshly baked pizza rustica, an omelette, and olives from the nearby olive groves, under a deep blue, star-studded sky.

The rooms are furnished in local style, with period furniture, wrought iron work by the village blacksmith used to decorate the beds, and every comfort, such as heating and air conditioning. There is great attention to detail, right down to the quilts and furnishings. Nothing is overlooked, including catering for people with special needs, with special ramps and toilet facilities.

The simple food is inspired by local tradition with the use of products and crops grown and harvested on the estate, from oil to vegetables, pasta and dairy products, fresh and mature cheeses. The needs of people suffering from coeliac disease can also be catered for, with specially prepared dishes. Any other allergies of which we are informed beforehand will be meticulously taken into account.

The outdoor space for guests, both young and old, has extensive green areas, games for kids, a grass five-a-side football pitch and volleyball court, as well as reading corners and places to walk, take refreshment, or have a nap under a fir tree.
