The accommodation

The building used to be an old barn with hayloft. It has been totally rebuilt in 2005 and renewd in 2012.

All five rooms are for two persons (either as king bed or 2 twin beds). All are provided with free WIFI, TV, Air Conditioning, fan and regulable heating. All rooms have country-style furniture and a private bathroom. Books and paintings give a warm "home" feeling.

Our two brand new apartments may host a family of two adults and one child. Built in prefab wood, fully eco, they are equipped with free wifi, TV, Air Conditioning and automatic air recycle.  They are made of an eat-in kitchen a bathroom and a wide living/sleeping room.

Enjoy your sweet and savoury breakfast in the morning: our jams, cakes, fruit, yogurt, Parma ham, Parmesan cheese, etc.
In winter, you'll have breakfast in the dining room facing the garden, in summertime you can sit in the veranda under the wisteria.
All guests sit at the same table. You can get to know each other, a moment of warmth and communication in the rush of modern life.
We do not serve breakfast to apartment guests, since they have their own kitchen. Of course we will be happy to provide them with our home made jams, wine, seasonal fruit and vegetables from our fields.

A nice pool amidst flowers will give you relax and coolness during hot days.

The farm fields are cultivated according to the principles of organic agriculture.
The environment is extraordinarily varied, thanks to the multiplicity of the cultivated plants, from vineyards to fruit trees, from vegetables to officinal plants, from strawberries to blackberries.
Inside the estate you can walk through a wood of almost two hectares. Here you can see the typical flora of our region: oaks, acacias, maples, chestnut trees, elms, ash trees, junipers, hawthorns, dogwoods, ivies, old man's beards (clematis vitalba) and many other types of plants and herbs with gorgeous flowers. It's not rare to find wild boards' traces or to run into woodpeckers, hares, pheasants, squirrels and even roe deers. An easy track goes through the forest, till you reach a spectacular oak (at least 350 years old).

Environment committment has always been our polar star, from the buildings, raised according to sustainable architecture, to energy sources (solar panels, wood boiler), from waste management to wet waste composting and reuse. We are proud to have been awarded the eco-certification of Legambiente, the major italian association for environment preservation.

Activities and surrounding

The owners are very interested in history, art, sport and nature. Hence, it will be a pleasure to help you drawing your 'personal' road-maps in close and far Italian places.
First visit should of course be to the enchanting city of Bologna, whose history has left so many traces both in the city itself and in the surrounding territory.
But from the farmhouse in 1 to 2 driving hours you can reach some of the most beautiful Italian cities: Firenze, Pisa, Arezzo and Siena, Modena, Parma and Ferrara, Ravenna, Rimini and Cesena, Verona, Padova and Venezia, Mantova and Urbino.

Moreover, in the next territory, clever tourists will discover places of great interest and beauty, as Ronzano Hermitage (Eremo di Ronzano), ancient monastery already cited in 1140. From here a fantastic view of the hills, Bologna and the plain, Regional Park of Gessi an of Abbadessa, the largest karstic park of Emilia Romagna, Pliocenic Counterfort, an exceptional sandstone rocky emergence, that goes like a transverse bastion crossing the Appennine valleys, Regional park of Monte Sole, that besides revealing an uncontaminated nature, bears the memoir of the terrible massacre of Marzarbotto, made by nazists and fascists against the civil population in 1944. Misa/Marzabotto, the only Etruscan town that hasn't undergone further Roman or middle-aged construction, its remains have remained intact in an orthogonal shape, Monte Bibele, an ancient Etruscan-Celt village, a very peculiar example of peaceful living together by different peoples, before the Romans wiped them all out and the Guglielmo Marconi's home and museum, celebrating the radio inventor.

Outside the farmhouse you'll find an infinity of possible hikes and trekkings, starting from our forest up to exploring the Apennine mountains between Emilia Romagna and Toscana.
Moreover, our municipality of Pianoro offer installations for almost all sports: football, basketball, gyms, swimming-pools, cricket, baseball, tennis, horse-riding. In bordering municipalities, there are rock walls loved by free-climbers, a 9 holes golf field and an archery field. Bologna hill and mountain territory has a strong vocation for cycling in all forms. A myriad of paved and dirt roads, mule-tracks and single-path tracks will satisfy all people and all legs. Here is the historical Futa road: since the Middle Age it has seen a good part of the Europeans who were going to Rome as pilgrims or for the XVIIth-XIXth century Grand Tour. It's a beautiful itinerary, completely paved, that brings you to Florence presenting you many a breath-taking view.
A few hundred meters from the farm you can find the so-called 'Gods' Road' or Flaminia Militare: it's the Roman Legions' road, that was connecting Bologna with Fiesole, now a beautiful itinerary for trekkers and bikers alike.

Agriturismo Il Cavicchio answers
