The agriturismo
An agriturismo in the hills just outside Bologna, easily accessible from the motorway. The 30 hectare estate is surrounded by thriving nature, fields of wheat, orzo, alfalfa and sunflowers, a vineyard and fruit trees.
The agriturismo is located in the Gessi Bolognesi Park, which is listed as an Italian “SIC” (Site of Community Importance), and part of the Natura 2000 Network. The owners also keep bees, with the ideal setting provided by the surrounding woodland.
The agriturismo has long been focussed on ensuring maximum sustainability, using renewable energy sources (photovoltaic and solar panels), cultivating fruit and vegetables without the use of chemicals and using Ecolabel toilet paper.
The accommodation
Guest accommodation is provided in 3 rooms, with TVs, bathrooms with showers and hairdryers.
The restaurant (seating 25-30 guests), is family-friendly and serves typical local dishes prepared using seasonal ingredients. You can enjoy typical Bologna recipes and starters of fresh homemade pasta (subject to booking).
Breakfast includes the farm’s own honey and jams, as well as biscotti and homemade tarts.
Activities include archery, fishing on the nearby lake into which the surrounding springs flow, ping pong and table football (booking required).
Activities and surrounding
The agriturismo is located in the Gessi Park, a Site of Community Importance: on the estate there is a path leading from the traditional fruit garden, along the vines and into the heart of the Site of Community Interest, an extremely biodiverse area which is part of the Natura 2000 Network. As you reach the woodland you can enjoy wonderful views that span the S. Luca Basilica, the lake and the Po Plain. From here you can continue along other pathways, such as the Gessaroli trail; CAI (Club alpino italiano, Italian Alpine Club) trail 102 and the lake trail.
Near the archery range you’ll find a small area of woodland, ideal for reading and relaxing.
The agriturismo is the perfect base for visiting Bologna and its exhibition centre, the Unipol Arena, the Golf Club and the Ca' La Ghironda Modern Art Museum. The sea is less than an hour's drive away.
