The agriturismo

Piccola Raieda, which takes its name from the same age-old farm, is born of the love and passion of the managers, Luca and Natascia, for the countrylife, the good homemade cousine, the horses and all the animals in general.

Piccola Raieda is located in a strategical place, perfect for different kinds of tourists: dipped in the uncontaminated natural reserve of the Contrafforte Pliocenico; (Pliocene Spur) and at the same time just 25 minutes away from Bologna and 50 minutes from Florence:

Piccola Raieda is also didactic farm, centre of riding tourism and place where to spend a day eating at the 0 chilometres' restaurant, doing a lesson in the riding stable, a riding out, a walk up to Monte Adone or simply relaxing in the garden while the children play in the swimming pool!

The accommodation

Piccola Raieda is located in the heart of the Natural Reserve of the Pliocene Spur, on the Apennines between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, just 20 minutes far from Bologna and 50 minutes from Florence, on the hills between Bologna and Sasso Marconi at an altitude of 503 meters.

It consists of a farm of about 10 hectares mainly of grassland and forest surrounding the house and the farm and is crossed by the Via degli Dei, the Roman road linking Bologna to Florence still covered each year from thousands of italian and foreign wayfarers by feet. The main activities of the farm are the breeding of saddle horses (at the moment there are six horses), our faithful fellow workers during the lessons in the riding stable and riding out; the vegetable garden that provides vegetables for our menu; the cultivation of lavender, from which we produce essential oil; the cultivation of cherries and little fruits;  the apiary, which allows us every year to produce excellent honey of acacia, chestnut, millefiori and the production of all kinds of jams for breakfast. In addition to horses, chickens, peacocks, dogs and cats  brighten our days.

Piccola Raieda also consists of an old farmhouse renovated in 2007, of which part is the house of the owners and part the agritourism that has been converted from what was once the barn used for the shelter of the cows with the hay loft above.

For the guests there are two double bedrooms with bathroom with stone walls, wooden ceiling and exposed beams and two rooms for four people (a two-roomed-flat and a spacious one-roomed-flat)) with bathroom as well as a dining room with a fireplace that can accommodate about twenty people. In summer you can enjoy our cuisine even outside in the walled garden surrounding the house with nooks with gazebos and umbrellas from which you can admire views of Bologna or the Pliocene Spur. On the back of the farm in the summer is served an above ground pool of 4 x 2.5 meters 1 meter high, always within the fence of the garden and therefore perfect for children who may be left in complete safety. The walled garden is also excellent for all guests who want to spend a few days of vacation with their 4-legged friends: dogs can roam anywhere without fear that it will move away. We are building a new stable where it will be possible to accommodate guests' horses all over the year; at their disposal also an outdoor riding stable of  40X20 meters.

Activities and surrounding

Regarding the HORSEBACK RIDING ACTIVITIES two instructors/guides will be on hand to meet your different needs: for children up to 14 years and for beginners are possible fun riding lessons of basic western riding or of preparation to the riding out in the country and baptisms of the saddle for the little ones; for children with at least 14 years and for adults with experience, after a short test of their riding level, are possible scenic riding out from at least an hour and a half to several days within the Natural Reserve of the Pliocene Spur , the Regional Park of Monte Sole and the district of "5 Valli Bolognesi". We organize every year a horseback tour from Piccola Raieda to Tuscany and from Piccola Raieda to the Adriatic Sea, both of a week. For adults with media experience who want to hone their skills: ad hoc programs from two to seven days as the "package two or three days around the horse"; the "taste of horsetrekking" and the "horsetrekking school".

As DIDACTIC FARM we propose different programs for groups and schools: " Packhorse and legs on the shoulders" hiking of a day within the reserve with packhorse and picnic (minimum 6 persons); "The Gothic Line and the Battle of Brento " walk on foot to Monte Adone to the discovery of the trenches of the Gothic Line; " Horse, what a passion " first approach to the world of the horse with baptism of the saddle; " From the flower to the honey " with stories about the mysterious world of bees. And for all the guests the possibility of involvement in agricultural activities: the collection of lavender; the vegetable garden; care of horses; the collection of blackberries and so on. During the summer there are also weeks for children and teenagers.

But that's not all: for lovers of outdoor sports many OTHER ACTIVITIES  are possible. Starting from the farm you can enjoy over 100 kilometers of well signposted paths for lovers of mountain biking, walking, Nordic walking and snowshoeing in snow; at about 6 km there is a golf course with 18 holes and at 2 km, the Rock of Badolo for experienced climbers. For those who love fishing at only 1 km will find a recreational lake where to test. For those who want to experience the thrill of rafting on the Limentra River, a qualified instructor living in the surrondings accompanies regularly groups with departure by car from Brento.

INSIDE THE FARM you can visit the trenches of the Gothic Line, theater of the last world war and  the summit of Monte Adone. At 200 meters from us the " Centre for the care of the wild and exotic fauna of Monte Adone", open only by appointment well in advance ..... so it is normal by us while dining in the garden to hear verses of chimpanzees or roaring of  lions .... you are not crazy, these are just some of the animals housed in this center!

Starting from the agritourism you can VISIT IN DAY:  the Bologna (25 min.) with its porticos and suggestive underground canals, Florence (50 min.) with its museums and its works of art but also the Adriatic Riviera (60 min.), San Marino, Ferrara, Ravenna, Borgo La Scola, the Historical Park of Monte Sole, the ancient Etruscan city of Misa, Monte Bibele with its excavations of the eponymous Celtic village and its Archaeological Museum as well as the Ferrari Museum in Bologna and the Ducati Museum in Maranello. At about 50 minutes from us there is a great water park with spa and the Alpe of Monghidoro with the Triton's Park, an adventure park for all where you can have a lot of fun climbing on trees. For shopping lovers, two outlets: one in Barberino del Mugello, near Florence and one in Castelguelfo, near Bologna (both at about 45 minutes far from us).

Even if it was born to realize the dream of a horseback riding holiday, it is perfect also for guests searching for a relaxing holiday with good cousine, walks and life in the open air; for guests who want to spend a holiday together with their own pets; but also for guests who want to discover the surrondings with a cultural holiday without giving up to the pleasure of a walk through the woods and of a homemade dinner in the cool of the garden during the summer or near the fireplace during the winter. As it is also on the "Via degli Dei", the roman path that linked up Bologna to Florence, it is a very confortable stopping place for the thounsands of wayfarers that walk along it every year.

    "Excellent"

    "What a great experience!"

    04/12/2017

My family and I just got back from a wonderful vacation in the Emilia Romagna region, and we stayed at this agriturismo. Let me start by saying that Natascia and Luca were the perfect hosts! Natascia is very good at responding to emails prior to the trip, and she answered every question we had within a day. She speaks three languages, and was so accommodating. We stayed 4 nights. The first two was in the room for four people. The mattress was so comfortable, and the room was open and spacious. My daughter stayed in the couch bed, which was much less comfortable but it's a couch bed, and she's a kid who can sleep anywhere!

The animals are obviously well treated, and very well trained. There was often horses outside of their stalls, just grazing on available hay, and paid no mind to my very energetic 2 year old, who more than once ran UNDERNEATH them. One of the dogs, Luna wasn't as comfortable with my wild child, and would growl her displeasure, but never showed any aggression. She would simply leave the vicinity.

For the last two nights, we stayed in a double room and a small cot for my daughter. Again, the room was clean, and the bed comfortable. The last night, the bed frame broke on my husbands side, causing a comedy of errors to ensue. Instead of waking the hosts, we simply moved the mattress to the floor and had a slumber party.

The food was wonderful, in a homey, country way. The food was rustic, wholesome, and very good. Don't expect the hyped food that you would get in the city. Instead, this is the food that is typical for the people embracing the fresh variety that is available to them.

In all, we traveled to Bologna, Modena, Parma and Ravenna. Bologna was only 30 minutes away, so you could go into the city for a nice evening, and come back to the quiet countryside. I highly recommend this agriturismo, and cannot wait to go back! And Natascia? Don't forget to send me those recipes!!!!!!

farm inconvenient, uncomfortable room! if you forget the shampoo and bubble bath ... you take a shower without, if you make an inquiry or have any need ... scordatele! the bed is embarrassing! very noisy house, you go to a farm to relax a bit and try a bit of silence ... but nothing! cold environment. food without infamy and without praise! managers ... Luke and Natasha: He helpfull and nice, she rude! plus side: Lollo, the guy who runs the stables! very nice guy and extremely available! baptized as lucky luke! There are also two spectacular white dogs and fantastic horses. not recommend this establishment! only if you go for a couple of hours to ride with Lollo.
