Il Canegiallo
Vejano (Viterbo)
- Traveller rating:
The family-run farm is located very near to the ancient hamlet of Vejano, in the land of the Etruscans, and offers a peaceful and pleasant stay and culinary traditions.
The agriturismo was born from a passion for reading and all settings draw upon the books of Georges Simenon (creator of Comm. Maigret). We also offer a library dedicated to this Belgian writer and mainly inspired by mysteries and detective novels.

The agriturismo is found on an estate measuring 2 hectares and hosts a young plantation of olive trees, a fruit orchard, seasonal organic produce that may be purchased and savored, as well as the wild orchids of Vejano.
We offer three rooms dedicated to the novels of Georges Simenon:
La camera azzurra: "The sun drenched the room, and it was so bright, with a warmth so vivid you could almost hear it breathing inside" (La Camera Azzurra, 1964).
Il cane giallo: "Seated at a marble table two men finish smoking a cigar, half reclined on chairs, with their legs stretched out. Hurry!… A crime... I don’t know... The customs officer turns around. The dog enters behind him and curls up at the girl’s feet" (Il cane giallo, 1931)."
Maigret a Pigalle: "He saw the neon sign at Picratt's turn off, and the owner, a short and fat man who wore a beige overcoat on top of his dinner attire, went out on the sidewalk and closed the shutters". (Maigret al Picratt's, 1951)
The agriturismo also offers a restaurant with homemade cooking (Marina as chef and Mauro as pastry chef), with ingredients from the farm and other farms in the Tuscia territory: wood oven cooking, homemade pasta with eggs grown onsite, boar, truffles, and vegetable from the garden. We also offer special menus for vegetarians and those with allergies.
