My husband and I stayed two weeks with our 12-year old daughter in an apartment at Cascina dei Peri. The farm is idyllic with a view of the old city of Castelnuovo Magra and the Magra valley. The apartment is plain and simple but met all our needs. We had breakfast on the lovely patio every day. Evenings we dined with our hosts and other guests and had wonderful homemade food grown on the farm. We bettered our wonderful talks with Italian daily through Mariangola, Tonino and Marielle and felt like part of the family. Their wine, olive oil and goat cheese were excellent. We enjoyed mountain biking, hiking, swimming and visited beautiful Lucca and Carrara. Sabine saw her first fireflies and bats at night and learned to milk the goats. We will never forget those wonderful, peaceful days and hope to go back.
