The agriturismo
This agriturismo, very close to Lake Como, was established in 1995 when an agricultural entrepreneur from Milan bought an old, 18th century country farmstead and decided to restore it and convert it for use as an agritourism facility. The agriturismo retains all the original features of the rural buildings made from mountain stone, typical of the Valle d’Intelvi zone.
The accommodation
Just 8 km from Como lakeside (Argegno), guests at the agriturismo can stay in double rooms and/or family rooms, all created while still retaining as many features as possible of the original, old building. Here you will find a singular atmosphere, with accommodation being particularly suited to couples looking for something romantic and/or for families who want to come into direct contact with the surrounding nature. Six of the rooms in this agriturism also have a fireplace. Free Wi-Fi connection is available in all rooms.
The agriturismo offers its guests the following room types: Standard Double Room: romantic and hospitable, but it does not have a fireplace or a balcony/terrace.
Superior Double Room: this is usually more spacious than the standard room and it has a fireplace and/or balcony/terrace.
Triple/Quadruple Family Room: obviously bigger than the others, this sleeps 4-5 people at the most (2 adults + 2/3 children) and has a terrace/balcony.
The agriturismo also has its own rustic restaurant, open daily, reservations required. Diners here can try out the local specialities and traditional dishes, cooked with flare but above all, with great care going into the selected ingredients, with its own produce standing out (goat’s cheese and salami, blackberry and raspberry jams, seasonal vegetables, mountain honey). All the pasta courses are made using fresh pasta strictly homemade on the farm itself. The cellar offers Oltrepò Pavese D.O.C. wines and spumante made using organic methods.
The large free parking area and the woods surrounding the farmstead also make this agriturismo particularly suitable for weekend getaways.
Pets are welcome (8 Euro x night).
Activities and surrounding
The agriturismo is surrounded by nature, in a zone protected by the WWF that has classified it as a Fattoria del Panda.
From this agriturismo it is easy to get to artistic itineraries in Val d’Intelvi, which still has artworks crafted by the Comacine Masters, Lake Como with its splendid villas (Villa Balbianello, Villa Carlotta, Villa Olmo) and gardens, and the ancient Romanesque churches (Church of San Fedele, Church of San Giacomo, Church of San Provino).
Together with TracciaTrekking the agriturismo organises guided tours of the Valle d’Intelvi and of Lake Como. Guests can also join tours to other areas, which are in any case no more than a two-hour drive away from the agriturismo: Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Alpine foothills, Val Darengo, etc. Most of the tours are average and easy hikes so it is also possible for families or people who are not experts to take part. A professional guide will always be present for all tours. On the property itself there is an excellent trekking trail plus a small covered gazebo, set up as a mini-fitness centre.
The agriturismo, in collaboration with the Municipalityof Castiglione d’Intelvi, offers its guests the opportunity to play tennis, on request and while courts are available, in the sports centre of Castiglione d’Intelvi, located about 15 minutes away by car. The agriturismo also works with a professional tennis coach who will be available – on request – on the sports centre’s opening days and times to give lessons to beginners and to more expert players.
