Sa Tanca de Santu Ainzu
Thiesi (Sassari)
- Traveller rating:
The farm is situated on a forested plateau, about 500 mabove sea level, directly on Lake Bidighinzu along the road that leads from Thiesi to Ittiri and Alghero.
The agriturismo has an ancient tradition: it was purchased, in fact, in the early 19th century, by the then senator of the kingdom Raimondo Garau, directly from the Duke of Asinara, the feudal lord of that area, and then passed down until reaching the current owner.

To reach the farm, you follow a climbing road, with wide bends, on the side of a limestone hill. Following this road, you can enjoy the broad views of the surrounding age-old woodland.
In the heart of the farm is a well-preserved ancient Romanesque church, dating back to the early 13th century. It overlooks the valley below and around it are the remains of old “cumbessias” (pilgrims’ lodgings) and a cemetery that could belong to an ancient monastery or a fairytale town. The only solid things are the church and the human bones found by digging in the garden that surrounds it. Behind this is “Su Palattu”, the ancient manor house. A large courtyard spreads out at the side of the manor house, flanked on one side by the old stables with overlapping arches and on the other by the old shepherd’s house. Inside the house is a draught-free oven, used to smoke cheese, and the device to rotate the pot of milk on the fire below.
The courtyard, called “Su acchile”, is overlooked by more recent constructions, for the agriturismo.
A few yards away are the remains of an ancient nuraghe, still partially buried in the ground.
Guests stay in a studio apartment with a bathroom which sleeps 6 in total.
