The agriturismo

The farm is located about 90 m above sea level, in the district of Misiliscemi, clearly of Arabic origin starting from the name (manzil escemmu: high place where water flows). The property is surrounded by a vast citrus orchard, immersed in the lush green of the olive groves and vineyards on a sunny hillside overlooking the western coast of Sicily, where you can enjoy the spectacular Egadi sunsets that stand out in a sea of light.

The accommodation

Safe reception

- breakfasts served at the table

- daily sanitization of common areas and frequently touched items (doorknobs, hall bathrooms, etc.)

- cleaners sanitize with gloves and masks

- hand sanitizing gel in each accommodation and in several places throughout the facility

The baglio (from Arabic rahal, resting place) that houses the present farmhouse dates back to the early 1900s. Recent restoration, respecting the original architecture, has restored splendor to the old wine cellar, which has been transformed into a large dining room with adjoining TV room. From the old warehouses, which have been renovated, two family rooms (No. 2 two communicating bedrooms and a shared bathroom) with 4/6 beds, nine rooms with 2/3 beds, all with en-suite bathrooms, two double rooms with bathrooms usable by the handicapped have been created. The rooms, soberly but tastefully furnished, reminiscent of the style of old houses, with iron beds, have old brick floors, are equipped with heating, intercommunication service, telephone and fax service.

An entire area of the facility full of amenities is reserved for overnight guests.

The dishes prepared in the kitchen are born under the banner of authenticity and freshness. The flavors of Trapani cuisine have been kept intact, thanks also to the valuable teachings of the elders of the family. All tasty preparations take advantage of the natural availability of the vegetable garden and farm produce: eliche alla ghiottona, with yellow squash, peppers, pistachios and fresh pasta, mint omelettes, or ricotta cheese, and, again, meat and vegetable couscous, taroncioli, a specialty of fried fresh tuma, peppers with breadcrumbs, caponata and many other tasty dishes, including pasqualora sausage and rabbit lardiato or cassatelle di ricotta, a typical local dessert.

At the farm it is possible to buy the farm's produce: extra virgin olive oil, citrus fruits, eggs and seasonal fruits and preserves in general. The farm also, upon request, provides typical dairy products such as ricotta, tuma, pecorino cheese as well as local honey and wine.

For children there is a playground with a swing and slide, among the prickly pears and greenery, flanked by a bocce court for older children, but there are also guided tours of the farm, the animal farms. It is possible to take relaxing walks in the surrounding countryside or, for those who wish, excursions, including guided ones, through the many tourist resorts in the province of Trapani located just minutes from the farm.

In the luxuriant garden adjacent to the farm building, in addition to olives and grapes, the farm also produces splendid citrus fruits; in particular, in the right season, it is possible to pick and consume the very tasty and juicy oranges of the "naveline" and "washington" varieties, prized grapefruits and the sought-after lemons.

The farm also has a wellness center with whirlpool and Turkish bath, where it is also possible to undergo relaxing and regenerating massages.

Activities and surrounding

Because of its happy location, the agritourism farm lends itself as a starting point for numerous excursions and visits. Just a few minutes' drive away is the Trapani and Paceco Salt Pans Nature Reserve, where majestic and austere windmills act as a bulwark for one of the last precious wetlands, a true mecca for a fauna rich in rare or endangered species: the Black-winged Stilt, the Flamingo, and the Avocet. The area is known, in addition to sea salt production, for that ofred garlic and winter melons.

Also near the farm is the Stagnone Nature Reserve, which encloses in its sleepy lagoon one of the most important archaeological treasures: the islet of Mothia, which for centuries hid from the world the treasures of the Phoenician-Punic civilization that thrived there in the 8th century BC. Just in front of the Stagnone, a few miles from the coast, develops in a triangle of crystal-clear waters, theEgadi archipelago, where myth is intertwined with history and traditions.

Favignana, from the incredible and spectacular tufa quarries that have shaped its appearance, is famous for the mattanza-the ancient tuna fishery-that still takes place there at the end of May and provides, in addition to fresh fish, the delicious botargo to be enjoyed over spaghetti or in oil. Levanzo, a true paradise for those who love tranquility, or want to rediscover the roots of our civilization, has artistic evidence dating back to the Upper Paleolithic and hidden in the Genovese cave. Marettimo, the most mountainous, rugged, steep and wild of the three sisters, fully deserves the name the Greeks had given it: "Hiera," the Sacred, a true temple of nature.

Another place that is possible to reach is the Zingaro Reserve, the first reserve established in Sicily, a true sanctuary of nature, a fantastic theory of white pebbly coves surrounded by water of an incredible turquoise that fades to cobalt. And again it is possible to visit the Foce del Fiume Belice Reserve, a strip of land that closely resembles the landscapes of the Maghreb coasts, a continuous intertwining of dunes that slope gently toward the shoreline where the now rare Caretta caretta sea turtle comes to ovideporre.

For those who love historical-archaeological itineraries, in addition to the aforementioned Mothia, it is possible to visit the two most important Elymian-Punic cities of the past: Erice, a magnificent synthesis of myth and history, art and culture, landscape and environment, fantasy and reality, and Segesta, with its mythical temple and grand theater, Punic counterbalance to the Greek Selinunte, a very rich museum of civilization, a true metropolis of antiquity', with an incredible number of temples built with the material obtained from the impressive Cave di Cusa. The area is famous for the production of Castelvetrano black bread and vastedda del Belice.
