Castello di Querceto
Greve in Chianti (Florence)
Contact
The castle is located in the northeastern side of the Chianti Classico area, in a small valley in the comune of Greve in Chianti.
This verdant area, thanks to its extraordinary beauty and to its central position, it is a strategic place to start visiting the historical Tuscany cities: Florence, home of art and poetry, is only 25 km far from us. Full of renowned museums, churches, squares and ancient buildings, the town makes you breath its history simply walking through the handicraft-shops and the elegant outlets.
In about 45 km you are in Siena, located up on a hill and surrounded by the old boundary walls. From the walls the city develops in a tangle of lanes and alleys arriving to Piazza del Campo, the main square where twice a year takes place the famous medieval horse race “Palio”.
At the beginning of the last century, Carlo François bought the estate and turned it from a country residence into an agricultural farm, starting immediately to play an important part in the wine world: in the 1911 it won its first international enological prize and in 1824 it was one of the 33 founded members if the “Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico”. In the old cellars there are bottles dating back to the first vintages of the 20th century.
At the castle you can have, better on request, winery tours (in Italian and English) of the medieval cellars.
During the visit you can have a walk in the Castle private garden among secular plants and have a complete view of the vineyards with their description from the bordered walls.
At the end of the tour, you will have guided tasting of three typical wines: Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva (which was listed in the 100 best wines of the world in its vintage 1999 and 2000) and one of our Crûs.
For tasting without visit and to buy the Castle products, the Enoteca is opened every working days from 10.30 a.m. to 17.30 p.m. and on Saturday, from May to September, on request.
