Pian di Fiume

The ancient market town of Piano di Fiume was populated up to the Second World War. Then the difficult living conditions caused the area to become slowly abandoned. Its preservative restoration, based on the most modern criteria of bio architecture (solar panels, herbal purification, cork insulation, recovery of the pre-existing and utilization of traditional materials) is part of an ambitious project that is integrated in the surrounding areas of Siena, through the apiculture and all beehive products, the comprehensive cultivation of farming product foods. The objective is the creation of a happy island, an autonomous and self-sufficient environment that produce high qualitative standard staying away from low-level standards following the globalization, but at the same time competitive in the market.

The environment, extremely calm, is troubled only by the distant sound of the Lima River and birds that frolic free among neighbouring trees; only invited guests are able to go through the gate and a private bridge and one Kilometre of walk in the forest. Strolling in the 20 hectares of the property and along the private coast with crystal water from the river, it is not difficult to bump into ducks, squirrels, porcupines, rates, foxes, pheasants, deer, roe deer and other animals.
Ideal to rest from daily stress, the environment is also excellent for its formative and updating classes, as a teaching lecture hall is prepared.
In the tavern, making a reservation guarantees our guests a very special attention serving typical dishes of local traditions (firewood oven baked bread, home made pasta, ravioli, cottage cheese and local shepherd's cheeses, meats and fine sausages of the breeding in Siena, chestnut flour, honey, jams etc.) The market town has also an inviting little church.

The apartments are spacious and comfortable (40-50 square meters) and have enough room to spend time in the open air to eat something while enjoying life. The insides are composed by kitchen/living room, sofa bed, restroom, double room and they all have a chimney or stove for firewood. It exists the possibility of staying overnight only in rooms with private bathrooms. Each room has its own entrance directly from the roads of the market town. Because of the conservative restoration, every setting is different from the other one and each has its peculiarity.
