The agriturismo

Typical agropastoral farm is situated in the Volterran countryside, approximately 5 Km from the city of Volterra itself.
It sits on a rise overlooking velvery pastures and the spectacular landscape of the "Balze", a natural erosion phenomenon of wild ravines and scoured cliffs unique in the world. Fattoria Lischeto is a working farm of 205 hectares of land dedicated to the farming of cereal crops, fodder and pasture lands for its herd of 800 sheep. Farming methods are strictly biologic as is the organic production of raw milk pecorino cheeses, extra virgin olive oil and delicatessen products.

The accommodation

The Lischeto  working organic holiday farm is situated about 5 Km from the historical hilltop town of Volterra. The farm, offering hospitality and eco-friendly accommodation is idyllically situated in an area of outstanding beauty amidst a landscape of  rolling hills. The accommodation and farm are both run on a chemical free basis, using only eco friendly renewable and recycled products. A rural retreat that offers breathtaking panoramic views including that of Volterra and  its sandstone cliffs the Balze Volterrane.

Here you can spend a holiday or a pleasant and relaxing weekend in the peace and quiet of the Tuscan countryside. Enjoy the outdoor swimming pool that offers a spectacular panoramic view and this unique environment that also includes an extensive sculpture park.

The farm provides 5 comfortable rooms and 14 self-contained apartments: double rooms, one, two or three room apartments and a suite with a whirlpool tub and open fireplace. All the rooms and apartments, completely restored retaining many of the farm’s original features, are en suite with independent central heating and provided with linen and towels. The apartments are self contained some have a separate entrance, an outdoor space or access to a  terrace with a panoramic view. Wherever possible, we have created accessibility  for our  disabled guests. A hearty buffet breakfast is included in the price.

An ideal environment for families where the children can play freely within the grounds, watch the cheese making process, get to know our animals and make friends with our docile and friendly ass called Horace.

Pets are very welcome on the farm at no extra charge.

We also invite you to taste the farm’s own produce in the rustic style dining hall : a selection of Percorino cheeses, extra virgin olive oil and our delicious homemade pasta.

Evening meals are served by reservation only. Our cuisine is a blend of traditional Tuscan and Sardinian cuisine carefully and lovingly prepared on the premises with fresh, seasonal, locally sourced, organic farm produce. The main ingredients are sourced directly from our own produce. The menu is a set menu although it changes daily. We also cater for special dietary needs. The restaurant is situated  in a late 19th century farmhouse which has been completely renovated retaining many of its original features. In rustic style and furnished with large tables, the restaurant offers a warm, cosy atmosphere with plenty of space to eat together, make new acquaintances and if you require a little intimacy that can also be arranged.

Activities and surrounding

On request and exclusively in our suite, you can enjoy a warm bath in whey or in sulphur water taken from our own source in Montecatini Val di Cecina.

The territory of  Volterra,  which extends over the Upper Cecina Valley and the Upper Era Valley, is not only  interesting for its ancient history and cultural heritage but also for it natural unspoilt landscape. Endowed  with an extensive network of nature trails, the area offers a wide variety of hikes and walks i.e through the Nature Reserves in Berignone, Monterufoli-Caselli and  Montenero which extend over a total area of 7100 hectares.

From Lischeto all of Tuscany's medieval towns, Etruscan and cultural riches are easily accessible, such as San Gimignano, Siena, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Florence. For those wishing to relax by the seaside all it takes is an approximately 40 Km. ride to reach our beautiful coastal towns and beaches, such as Castiglioncello, San Vincenzo, Cecina.
