The agriturismo
Agriturismo 30 km from Siena in the area of the Crete Senesi, set in a peaceful, scenic location. Local specialities include pecorino cheese flavoured with wild herbs, PDO olive oil and meat of the Chianina, a cattle breed that has grazed here since Etruscan times.
Family-run farm that cultivates and produces wheat, fodder, extra-virgin olive oil, and raises Chianina cattle.
Traditional cuisine with recipes passed down through generations and made from the farm’s own produce (Chianina beef, vegetables, oil and homemade durum wheat pasta).
The accommodation
The agriturismo offers 6 units: 2 apartments and 4 double rooms (2 of which have an equipped kitchen), with “arte povera” furniture and air conditioning.
Cipresso (first floor) and Olivo (ground floor): sitting room with equipped kitchen and sofa bed, terrace with table, chairs and parasol.
Alloro (ground floor): bedroom with double and single bed, kitchenette.
Pesco (first floor): bedroom with double and single bed.
Rosmarino (first floor): double room, kitchenette.
Susino (first floor): double bedroom.
Large garden surrounding the farmhouse, with panoramic view and swimming pool (12 x 6 m), open from May to October and furnished with parasols, sun loungers and a gazebo with tables and chairs.
Activities and surrounding
The Crete Senesi, a series of grey, clayey hills,stretch south of Siena. Just a stone’s throw from the agriturismo is the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore with its cloister frescoed by Signorelli and Sodoma, its library and old pharmacy.
Asciano has 14th century walls and Romanesque buildings (Basilica of Sant’Agata and Palazzo Corbuli, now a museum). The Thermal springs of Rapolano are just a few km away and offer massage, beauty treatments, mud and balneotherapy, thermal inhalation and physiotherapy, with special discounts for guests of the agriturismo.
