Fornace del Conte

La agriturismo is composed of a fully restored, two storey, 18th century farmhouse and adjacent brick outbuildings that were originally used as storehouses for farm equipment.
La Fornace offers 3 independent apartments called “le Case”, each of which has its own private space, while externally the structure offers communal areas such as the gardens, the courtyard for open-air barbecues and ample car parking space.

La Casa del Ferro (85m2), is composed of: ground floor living space and kitchen with fire place, bathroom and raised gallery with a bedroom upstairs.
La Casa della Pietra (50m2), is composed of: living space and kitchen with fireplace, one bedroom with raised gallery and bathroom.
La Casa del Gelso (50m2), is composed of : living space and kitchen, one bedroom and bathroom.

They decided to call the apartments “le Case” in order to communicate the values of intimacy and homeliness. “Le Case” are all fully restored and have been furnished with great respect to the history of the location, with an added touch of contemporary style; the rooms, furnishings and objects have been created by artists and designers keen to pay tribute to the culture and traditions of the Tuscan countryside.
Just as the ‘ferro' (iron) was used to make tools and cutlery and the ‘pietra' (stone) was used to construct houses, barns and farm buildings; ancient artefacts in stone and iron discovered during the excavations, have been incorporated into the decor of the houses in creating a bond with the history and traditions of this magical setting.

‘Gelso', meaning Mulberry tree, is the name of the third house and its nomenclature is in tribute to the large white Mulberry tree at the side of the main building. The Mulberry tree, whose leaves were used to feed silk-worms, is a reminder of the silk trade that existed in this part of Tuscany until the 1940s. From 1869 to 1926 in the area around Montepulciano existed the largest silk farm in all of Italy employing 600 people.
