La Grancia di Spedaletto
Pienza (Siena)
- Traveller rating:
In the heart of the Orcia Valley the ancient Castle of Spedaletto, built along the main European road, the Via Francigena, has been transformed into a comfortable Farmhouse holiday called The Grancia. The Castle was built by the priest Ugolino da Rocchione in the 12th century as a fortified farm and as a place to guest the pilgrims. Since the 1236 the building complex belonged to the Santa Maria Hospital and was called "Orcia bridge's Hospital". Important people stopped in this place as Carlo D'Angio and the Pope Pio II.
In the 15th century there was an important restoration and the place was fortified. The Castle of Spedaletto is a very peaceful and quiet place. The Carletti family is the owner of the farmhouse and they always offer to their guests a warm welcome, helpfulness and good company.

The farmhouse is divided into two parts: the first part, that used to be the Granary, has been built on the walls of castle; the other part is located in the inner cloister, which is the heart of the castle.
In the first room, called the Granary, we have three bedrooms that have a common living room and kitchen with a fireplace.
In the second room, located in the inner cloister, we have four bedrooms again with a common living room and kitchen (and soon with the fireplace).
