The arrival of spring brings joy and new energy. The days grow longer and warmer, nature starts to bloom and the outdoors beckon.

Don’t waste these precious months! We’ve prepared some suggestions of things you can do in spring, both at home or during your travels in Italy.

Curious? Start reading!

With winter behind us, it’s an ideal time to rid your body of toxins. How? Drink lots of water and prepare some delicious herbal teas. Herbal teas are an excellent way to flush the body and help restore balance and energy. Plus, drinking herbal teas is very relaxing!

Even our agriturismi know these secrets… For example, at Agriturismo Karma in Montignoso (Massa-Carrarayou can book an anti-stress weekend or an entire week devoted to wellness, with special diets and herbal teas. Guests can even take a healthy cooking class or farming lessons.

At Agriturismo Terra e Cielo in Serra Riccò (Genoaguests can enjoy relaxing with music, books, herbal teas, or reiki and shiatsu sessions. At our farmhouse, Solasna, you can take cooking lessons and learn how to brew your own herbal teas.

The same is true for La Gavina in Siena where guides show guests how to identify and pick herbs and flowers, and then make teas right in the agriturismo’s kitchen. At Agriturismo Casa delle Erbe in Albareto (Parma), the high altitude (500 meters above sea level) allows them to grow an array of herbal plants to craft their own delicious and interesting teas.

If physical activity was on your to-do list for the new year, but you haven’t started yet, then get out your running shoes and start moving! It doesn’t take much to add exercise to your routine: try getting up 30 minutes earlier each morning, and if there’s a park nearby, go for a quick run. Not convinced? Try working out on gym equipment at home or following zumba lessons on Youtube. Still not convinced? Then take a simple walk for 40 minutes every day.

Vacation is a great time to get motivated. At Agriturismo Campo di Carlo in Sassetta (Livorno) there are many trekking and jogging trails where you can get some exercise while enjoying the lovely Tuscan hills. Around Agriturismo Sole Luna in Baiso (Reggio Emiliayou can go running or take long walks and discover the local flora and fauna.

At Tenuta Mezzana in Cutrofiano (Lecce) there are lots of things to do, including guided bicycle tours along a 10 kilometer trail that winds through ancient olive trees and mills. Or how about experiencing the beauty of nature on long walks barefoot in the park at Agriturismo Corte Costavecchia in San Giorgio in Mantua?

Spring means renewal. So how can we start fresh? Dedicate half a day on the weekend, pop on some good music, pump up the volume, and give your home some TLC! Tidy up, get rid of things you no longer use, clear out your bookshelf, pantry, and desk. Wash cushions and rugs, and don’t forget the windows! A really thorough cleaning will leave you feeling invigorated and cheerful!

When you’ve finished, reward yourself by purchasing something new for your home, or even just move around the furniture. As an alternative, try a new hobby, like decoupage, and make something new yourself!

At Le Piagge di Quarrata in Quarrata (Pistoia) guests can take decoupage, ceramic and painting lessons, and take home their handmade creations. The same holds true for Dimensione Natura in Campagna Lupia (Venice

where in addition to decoupage, you can learn sewing and embroidery techniques.

Spend a day taking care of body and mind at your own home spa. Start with some stretching, or a yoga session. Get a tub ready with bubble bath, lavender or sandal essential oils, treat your feet to a nice soak, or try a facial mask.

If you’d rather eynjoy some pampering away from home, then take advantage of one of our agriturismi with a spa. There are so many to choose from, so plan a weekend or an entire week in the farmhouse of your choice. It’s easy! Just take a look at the many options on our website!

Taking care of our body carries over to our diet. Eating lots of seasonal fruit and veggies is essential. Luckily, in spring a bounty of delicious produce is available. Incorporate fresh ingredients like asparagus, strawberries, peas, artichokes, zucchini, lima beans, radishes, apricots and kiwis in your recipes at home.

At some of our agriturismi you can even harvest your own food. Rifugium in Greve in Chianti (Florence) invites guests to pick strawberries and asparagus, and at Mulino delle Canutole at Magione (Perugia) guests can collect wild asparagus from March to October. At Palazzo di Monteoliveto in Monzambano (Mantua) guests can pick lots of fruit right off the trees, including apricots and kiwis.

When spring beckons, heed the call! How about a picnic with the entire family? Choose the park closest to you, or go a bit farther and discover somewhere totally new. Prepare some games, find those soccer balls, and make a quick lunch: it’s a great way to spend the day, and something both kids and adults can enjoy.

Many of our agriturismi boast amazing picnic areas for guests. For nature lovers, Agriturismo Santacinnara in Soveria Simeri (Catanzarohas some great spots with lovely views. In Sessa Aurunca (Caserta), Agriturismo La Roccia di Caserta has a small forest where you can picnic to your heart’s content.
