The accommodation

The farm is a pearl set in a nature reserve between the Valle del Marta (where the river of the same name flows) and the historic center of Tuscania, scattered within its 50 hectares of Etruscan presences dating back to the 6th century BC. Tuscania, known as a center of historical importance and medieval monumental, also boasts an extraordinary Etruscan presence, until becoming, in this era, one of the most important cities of the lucumony of Tarquinia and center of the road network connecting the coast and the hinterland. To visit we recommend the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, an ancient church built in the VIII century, the Church of San Pietro in Lombard Romanesque style, considered as the most important monument of the city. In addition, the Tuscan countryside is dotted with numerous necropolis dating back to the Etruscan age; mainly composed of rock-type sepulchers with docks (VIII - VI century BC). Tuscania, geographically located halfway between Lake Bolsena and Tarquinia (the nearest seaside resort), allows our guests to reach, in a few kilometers, several medieval villages or archaeological sites of great historical importance, starting from the provincial capital Viterbo with its source of warm sulphurous water, called the Bullicame, or the charming San Pellegrino neighborhood Symbol of the ancient medieval city and that represents an interesting review of the thirteenth century building typology, with its towers, squares, alleys, arches and characteristic profferli (external stairs), or Villa Lante, one of the most famous 16th century Mannerist gardens. As for important archaeological sites of Etruscan age, we recommend visiting Vulci, an ancient Etruscan city that today is part of the territory of Montalto di Castro, in the Province of Viterbo, in the Lazio Maremma on a limestone platform along the right bank of the Fiora . It was one of the largest city-states in Etruria, with a strong seafaring and commercial development with Greece and the East, as evidenced by the sumptuous funerary objects found in the adjacent necropolis, today scattered in museums all over the world; or Tarquinia, which was one of the oldest and most important settlements of the Etruscan dodecapoli. The ancient Etruscan and Roman center stood on the hill known as La Civita, behind the hill of Monterozzi where stands the modern town and where the ancient necropolis is located. This necropolis includes a large number of tumulus tombs with rooms carved into the rock, in which is preserved an extraordinary series of paintings, which represent the most conspicuous pictorial core of Etruscan art and at the same time the largest document of the whole ancient painting before the Roman imperial age. A few kilometers away you can also find Lake Bolsena (bathing) where you can visit one of its two islands, which preserves an almost untouched nature with thick woods, gardens and numerous monuments including the church of Saints James and Christopher, with the imposing dome built by Vignola, the Franciscan convent and the island's villa. Built entirely on a mountain about 600 meters above sea level, we find Montefiascone with its historic center articulated on the steep sides and surmounted by the magnificent Renaissance dome of the Duomo; its height allows from various points of observation, to dominate almost all the Tuscia and the lake of Bolsena; Do not miss the Rocca dei Papi, a building dating back to the 13th century, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake. Moving north for about 15 kilometers you can visit the charming village of Civita di Bagnoregio, located in an isolated position, reachable only by a pedestrian bridge 1965. The cause of its isolation is the progressive erosion of the hill and the surrounding valley, which has given life to the typical shapes of the gullies and which continues today, risking to make the village disappear and is therefore also called 'the city that dies', is currently inhabited by twelve people! Civita was founded 2500 years ago by the Etruscans and stood on one of the oldest streets of Italy, joining the Tiber (then the great navigation route of Central Italy) and the lake of Bolsena. Instead continuing north, entering the Umbria region, you can visit and admire the beautiful Orvieto. On the other hand, if you want to cross into the nearby region of Tuscany, we recommend visiting the nearby Pitigliano, Manciano, Sorano, Sovana and Saturnia with its famous thermal waters.
