"Going to Barolo and the Piemonte? Stay here!"

    11/09/2018

Everything previous reviewers have said about Rafaela are true! She's a beautiful and gracious host who will do anything to personalize your stay. Our room was great as Air Conditioning in late June is a MUST! The breakfasts included homemade bread, jams and marmalade with wonderful cheeses and proscuitto. Insist on seeing her twin dogs...they are a hoot! The location is great as its within walking distance of Barolo and a short drive to the neighboring towns of Barbaresco, Alba, etc. Rafaela even helped us order cheese from a local maker.

"Raffaella the owner is a highlight in Barolo"

    06/24/2018

My 3 night stay at Agriturismo Il Gioco dell'Oca was all (and more) that I was hoping for in terms of staff, breakfast and location. Raffaella was so kind as she helped me daily to find the best spots to visit and eat. She even booked several restaurants and a Cantina tour at Fontanafredda winery (a must see!) for me. Location is central enough in the Langhe region but you obviously need a car to get around (2 miles from center of Barolo). I would recommend any room at the B&B except the third floor attic who's angled ceiling is too low.

"Welcoming atmosphere. Great location in the center of Piemonte."

    10/03/2017

From the moment you arrive you feel at home. There are many B&B in the area. But what makes the place so special is Raffaella, the owner. Raffaella welcomes you with a big smile. Helps with everything, especially with planning trips and interesting activities or restaurants around the area. Breakfast was rich and delicious, mostly made by Raffaella. At the end there was hardly room for typical Piedmont cakes (Homemade of course). Next time in Italy we will certainly be staying here once again.

    08/24/2017

Spectacular indeed. Raffaella makes you feel at home with the magic of the place and their fantastic welcome taken care of every detail, starting with a breakfast made strictly "all at home". Congratulations and thank you for being able to make the few days of relaxation comfortable and very relaxing. Work that is completed with the surrounding landscape. A special greeting at Chablis! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

"A corner of care and elegance in the heart of the Langhe"

    07/18/2017

We stayed 2 days at the OCT during the Barolo Collision Festival. For the first time after a long time I can finally say that I have found a real farmhouse! Not only for the beauty and authenticity of the place, a typical Langhe farmhouse with taste and elegance, but also because Raffaella welcomes its guests with the attention and refinement of rare times. Talking with her and entrusting her advice means getting into the wonderful ecosystem called Langhe. Thank you for hosting us. Barbara and Fabio

It's a lovely house and Raffaela is an excellent hostess. I stayed for two nights with my parents. The rooms were comfortable, the breakfast delicious, the Wifi works and Raffaela has plenty of up-to-date information on what to do, where to eat, etc. You probably should be warned that the nearby road is busy, but really don't let that put you off; I slept incredibly soundly. Do pack earplugs, though.

    11/07/2013

We had a wonderful time. Immediately upon arrival we have felt Raffaelas hospitality when we were allowed to taste the delicious Barolo from your father and cheese and sausage. After a restful night in the lovingly furnished rooms, there was a very tasty and more than adequate breakfast with homemade cakes, jams, eggs, sausage, cheese, fruit and vegetables from the home garden .... Particularly memorable stay with us unforgettable evenings cooking in the cozy kitchen with the other guests from the Netherlands and Sweden. Also, the location within walking distance of Barolo amidst diverse wine regions is recommended. You can see the area by bike (caution rather high hill), on foot or by car to explore. At Raffaela again kudos and huge thanks. We can Gioco de'l Oca highly recommended! Lilly and Tim

    "Kurzurlaub im Piedmont, Barolo"

    10/23/2013

Unfortunately, we were only 1 night at Raffaella and her family. But it was like one weeks holiday. We had so much fun and we fared really well. The breakfast was more extensively than plus super fine (various home-made stuff). The hospitality was insane, we felt so comfortable with you. We would recommend this Agri anyone, even for a longer stay. At the next opportunity we will certainly come by again and hopefully for a few more days. Greetings from Basel, Switzerland

    08/14/2012

We (2 persons, m & f, 39/34) stayed for 5 days at Raffaela and have felt there fiddle. The house and the rooms are very clean, comfortable and cozy. Gloria and her team are well looked after. The breakfast was delicious and extensive - the highlight of each day, and the tomatoes - a dream. We were able to wash our clothes (or it was washed us) and use the kitchen. The outdoor area in front of the house is very comfortable. After 5 days we felt like home - what more could you want. When we come back in the Langhe, we will certainly do again in Raffaela maintenance. The price is absolutely fair. Thanks to Gloria and her team for a wonderful experience!

It's hard to know where to begin. We've never stayed in a more comfortable place with more helpful and knowledgeable people, and we have stayed in some fairly elegant Chateaux. We are returning for the 7th or 8th time next September---I've lost count. The location is perfect for exploring the beauty, wine, and food of Piemonte. Raffaella will literally but unobtrusively make you feel at home, as will her wonderful staff. I once asked her if she ever stopped smiling; she said yes, but I've yet to see that. We love Piemonte, but look forward to returning to Gioco as much. Raffaella's 4 year-old daughter and Bernese Mountain Dog only add to the charm.
Others have commented on how helpful Raffaella is with restaurants, sightseeing advice, etc.---quite true. Some years ago, however, during our stay, my wife had a complication from previous recent surgery. Raffaella drove us to the hospital, translated for us in the ER, and eventually came to pick us up. Priceless.
The rooms are rustic, charming, and beautiful. The plumbing and heating are modern and they work. Stay for at least 3 or 4 nights, and really relax.
Any negatives? 1) We feel guilty rejecting much of the overabundant breakfasts. 2)The nearby road can be busy late afternoon/early evening, but we've never had a bad night's sleep.

"Looking for that extra dimension whilst visiting Barolo? You'll be astonished by the warm welcome and overwhelming service at Il Gioco dell'Oca!"

    12/20/2011

Upon arrival around midnight, after a hard day at work and fast trip to this place, imagine an open fire, a pan with butter, boiling water on the stove, home made ravioli on a plate ready to be cooked and a note inviting you to harvest some fresh sage just outside the kitchen door. Imagine it's not imagination, but the start of a four days experience, designed by Raffaella. Imagine to follow her path, booking tables for lunch and dinner in honest nearby restaurants for the coming 3 days. Imagine the flavours of all you expect to find in this region. And more. And imagine this is not imagination, but real life! Superb location, clean rooms and surroundings, honest and warm encounters: this is "feeling at home in its best days"! Don't hesitate: if there's room available and if you spend time at Il Gioco dell'Oca, you'll be the luckiest party in this famous Italian region! Bravo Raffaella! And THANK YOU!

    12/16/2011

Certainly, the reason why you would come to this place would be the wine, the food and the incredible sightseeing. But this all should also be accompanied with a pleasand stay at the guesthouse. Il Gioco dell'Oca has everything you need, I feld at home. Excellent service from the staff, cosy bedrooms (antique but confortable)and a giant "carnet d'adresses" to guide you through the many and excellent restaurants surrounding the B&B. Raffaella and her staff will select, in respect of your desires, the perfect match in food and wine and even will make the reservation if needed.
Staying in Barola means discovering the ancient history of Piemonte and visiting places such as Torino, Alexandria, Cherasco, Milano.... A week is not enough. I'll be back. Michel B
