The ample breakfast offers cake, fruits and bread with home-made breakfast, dinner and service are excellent anche. Maria and Samantha are very kind hosts and we'll definitely come back next time.

"Relaxing stay in a beautiful setting!"

    07/06/2015

Steve and I stayed for 5 nights at Fontana del Cherubino in early April 2015. The olive farm has been in owner Daniele's family for several generations. We were met on arrival by Maria and her husband, who made sure everything was ready for our stay. Our cottage was just perfect! Our breakfast each morning was delicious and Maria made the espresso just the way Steve likes.

We enjoyed having wine on our own patio before walking the short distance to the dining room for our dinner each evening. Oh, we're so happy that we chose to have dinner each night prepared by Samantha and served by Maria! The dinners were amazing! Three starters, then a pasta dish, a meat dish, and dessert. Samantha created amazing dishes, often using fresh ingredients from the farm. We really enjoyed talking with Samantha and Maria after dinner. It made us very happy to be able to share our appreciation for a great meal!

The location of Fontana del Cherubino was perfect for easy day trips to Mt. Etna, Catania, Siracusa, Villa Romana de Casale, Morgantina, and other incredible sites. It was an easy drive from the Catania airport.

We love Sicily and our relaxing stay at Fontana del Cherubino means we hope to come back and enjoy the hospitality of Daniele, Samantha, and Maria!

"Wonderful place to stay, with exceptional food"

    11/12/2014

We stayed three nights and really loved this place. Friendly and helpful staff and we opted to eat in each night as the food is amazing and very flavoursome. The room was large with a shower room attached and is set in its own grounds surrounded by prickly pears and olive groves with views over the surrounding hills and etna just behind. The main house has a terrasse with the same views. There is a small swimming pool tucked away for further relaxation. The owner Daniele speaks perfect English and is very welcoming as were Maria and Samantha. The olive oil that the farm produces is delicious too. We loved this place - for a relaxing get away from it all, it is hard to beat. Just one word, don't be put off by the approach to the farm, once you are off the main roads, it is a different world.

La Fontana del Cherubino is the most fantastic place to stay when visiting the eatern part of Sicily. We had a wonderful stay over 5 days in September. The cottage was clean, quiet and very comfortable with a lovely swimmingpool at 50 meters from the house. The meals were incredible, cooked bij a the talented Samantha and brought to us by Maria, who to care of us also at breakfast. We realy have been spoiled and we will certainly return the next time we visit this beautiful island!

We were visiting Sicily & decided to stay for a week at this facility.
We used it as our home base to visit many attractions, such as Mt Etna, Siracusa, Noto & the Necropoli near Sortino. Our room was nice & had a sitting area outside. We originally planned just to do breakfast there, but after seeing the winding roads, we didn't want to be on the road after dark. The meals were plentiful & delicious.
Samantha is an excellent cook & Maria served us well. They did their best to understand our limited Italian. Daniele gave us information on places to visit. It was a great stay & we highly recommend staying at Fontana del Cherubino.

    "An real Oasis"

    10/06/2014

The approach to this amazing agriturismo had me a little concerned for a while. It is situated close to a rather unattractive working class town with nothing going on of particular note! The directions were reasonable by Sicilian standards but the kerbside rubbish and litter in the surrounding areas had me worried that we had booked to stay in the wrong location, but all my fears melted away when at last we found this genuine oasis of a place. Daniella the owner who speaks good English and is male, met us upon our arrival and was most welcoming. We were offered refreshments and shown our accommodation which was in effect a small detached ground floor apartment situated in landscaped grounds behind a gated entrance just across from the main farmhouse. The bedroom was furnished beautifully with small fridge and wet room incorporating shower and bidet. The totally unique feature of this room was the glass door that opened into an illuminated cave at the rear (this might sound spooky but it was a lovely feature) There was secure private parking at the front and the walk up to the lovely private swimming pool (shared with just one other set of guests) was flanked by mature fruiting Cactus.
We took dinner and breakfast on the terrace outside the main dining room of the farmhouse. The waitress, Maria, was very friendly and attentive albeit she couldn't speak a word of English. This however didn't stop her introducing each dish with a full Italian description which added to the totally authentic feel to our stay at this wonderful place. As this agriturismo only has two rooms, there is no menu, instead the chef will individually prepare a delicious choice of traditional local food freshly for the guests each day. The menu was €25 each which we felt was very good value, it didn't include wine but they had a great selection ranging in price but we had a very nice local red for €10 a bottle.
We used this as a base to visit Etna, the south side was very accessible and well signed.

    08/24/2014

We decided to spend 2 weeks in Sicily and we wanted to really get to know the place and what Sicily had to offer. After various searches we found Fontana del Cherubino and so glad we did. We found we could get to most places in the northern part of Sicily within 1 hour ( depending on traffic and the crazy driving of the Sicilians ).

We could not have chosen a better place, the staff ( which are now friends ) could not have looked after us better. They could not speak much English, but it didn't matter and was fun communicating. The surroundings of the Agriturismo was stunning to wake up to - absolute stillness and quiet - until the goats and sheep from the neighbours were hearded up the lane.
From the Agriturismo you could clearly see Mount Enta in the distance and we were honoured by her volcanic eruption during our last week, and visited three times to get a closer look.

There is a swimming pool in the grounds and is private for both of the two "cottages" and which we had to ourselves and used every day to cool down from the 43 degrees August temperatures.

Our accommodation was the Grotto and did have the lava bubble which was quite a unique feature and was accessible via sliding doors from the room.

However all the above is insignificant without the fantastic staff of Maria, Samantha and Marian. Samantha created some lovely local dishes for the evening meal and all of the fruit and vegetables were grown on the Agriturismo. we dined on the Terrace every night which was quite unique and watched the sun set in the stillness over the valley. Marian ( who could speak very good english ) worked on the land with his father and looked after the chickens and horses and was proud to show us around.
All in all it was just the break we needed and was a mixture of getting to know Sicily and relaxing.

We were there in September 2013 and enjoyed it very, very much. Huge room in a small house in the middle of a beautiful garden - total silence! Excellent cuisine, Samanta cooks delicious! Loving service of Mary, exactly describes each course - just a delicious food. Refuggio Sapienza on Etna Sud can be reached in about 30 minutes. We have felt ourselves very well - thank you!

    07/22/2013

Looking back on our Sicily vacation, stay at the Fontana del Cherubino was definitely a highlight! We stayed one week in the very unique "La Grotta" to relax and explore the Etna area. We tremendously enjoyed our stay! Daniele and Maria were of the most cordial and uncomplicated hosts and made us feel truly welcome. Combine did with Samantha's delicious dinners on the veranda with a view over the whole valley and you have the perfect vacation. Highly recommended

    "A beautiful place, great food"

    06/27/2013

We were in Sicily for the first time and we were guests at the Fontana del Cherubino just for one night, which was too bad because quell'agriturismo is really a beautiful place, very clean and well kept and welcoming. Recommended! There is a restaurant, really I recommend the food was great. We thank Mr Daniel for the advice he has given us to discover the area around Mount Etna, and we are sure that we will return.

    "wonderful stay"

    06/12/2013

It is well worth finding this address...easier from Paterno. Everything is perfect... welcome, accommodation, setting, and, of course, the food. The fact that there are only 2 bungalows means that there is a maximum of 4 guests, so the service is personal. The restaurant is only open to the general public at weekends. We shall come back for a longer stay next time to discover more of Etna.

"Best way to start a vacation in Sicily"

    06/10/2013

We landed in Catania and drove straight to Daniele's. We stayed in the grotto room which was most amazing and ate a beautiful 3-course meal at the restaurant, maybe our favorite in all of sicily. The pool was clean cool and lovely, and the wine perfect. We will be back for sure.

"The perfect start of our Sicily-trip: a room with a view, magnificent & peaceful surroundings and a charming host"

    05/26/2013

We stayed in Fontana de Cherubino for 1 night. It was the perfect start of our trip around Sicily. We were welcomed by our most friendly host Daniele. Waking up surrounded by cactuses, olive trees and with a view on the Etna made us immediately forget the hustle and bustle of our every-day-life in Belgium. The room 'La Grotta' has a view on a real grotto, which is integrated in the room (when you get there you'll understand what I mean). Breakfast was more copious than we expected: we really enjoyed the sweet cakes & cookies and the soft bread. Unfortunately we did have time to enjoy the restaurant. That's why we have to come back!

We were the end of April 2013 for 5 nights in Cherubino. The accommodation is beautifully situated with a view of Mount Etna. Our room was fully decorated handle many details. But the excellent food was exceptional by Samanta and the loving service of Maria and Daniele. We had no accommodation for our further journey to Sicily, which was nearly as nice. We would definitely come again. Grace

The ambience of the Casa del Gelso the hacienda Fontana del Cherubino and the situation in the olive groves with views of Mount Etna were beautiful. Also thank you for the great sevice to Mary!
