Fraz. Orticaia 21, Orticaia 50062 Dicomano (Florence)
The farm is located less than 3 km from Dicomano and is part of the S. Iacopo complex in Orticaia – dating back to 1100, once the home of Camaldoli monks, the complex includes a church of the same name, with centuries of history: in 1260, Pope Alexander IV named it "Conventus Ecclesia S. Jacobi Ord. Sancti Augustini"; later, in 1513, the church was made part of the Santa Maria degli Angeli Monastery in Florence by Pope Leo X, before becoming, in the XX century, property of the ancestors of Count Alessio Gentili.
The agriturismo features the original wooden beams and a typical Tuscan open fireplace; it also offers a fully-equipped kitchen and modern home comforts for those looking for a pleasant, relaxing holiday with beautiful views of the entire Mugello Valley.
Next to the church you’ll find the guest apartment: the ground floor comprises the fully equipped kitchen, hearth and wood burning oven, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, while on the first floor you’ll find 2 more bedrooms and a second bathroom.
The large garden with views of the Mugello valley is the ideal place to relax with a glass of wine from the organic farm itself, which cultivates using traditional methods, producing olives and PGI Mugello chestnuts, seasonal vegetables in its vegetable garden and fruit in its orchard.
The farm also rears Limousin cattle, listed in the herd book.
The agriturismo is just 5 minutes from the town of Dicomano and around 40 minutes from Florence, which is accessible by public transport. Criss-crossed by roads and pathways, the estate is the perfect place for long walks in the open air.
Don’t miss the “Rufina e Pomino” Chianti Route, the Casentinesi Forest Park where the Arno begins, and the Mugello racetrack in Scarperia.
Inform the agriturismo of any animals at the time of booking.
Owners will be held responsible for damage to property and persons.
We were there in May for a few days. The house and the garden are well maintained. You do not even believe when you drive up the street, that then even such a beautiful building comes. Nearby are a few cafes and restaurants as well as a COOP. The decor is beautiful rustic and fits the Italian flair. The building has several separate rooms and 2 separate bathrooms. It also has a well-functioning Wi-Fi. The best part of the whole stay were the nice hosts. One immediately had the feeling that they like to have guest contact. We would like to come back.

The setting is absolutely beautiful, 3Kms from Dicomano, with views of mountains and of the river Sieve. Fruit trees, vegetables and vines grow on slopes under the watchful eyes of hens and the farm's herd of Limousin cattle. The apartment is located overlooking a lovely garden, with scents of rosemary and lavender wafting on the breeze, when there is a breeze. There is a lovely terrace with plenty of seating and a table for outdoor dining.
The apartment is large, comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The kitchen has a four-ring gas hob, electric oven, double sink, fridge-freezer, kitchen table for 8-10, a huge fireplace and a wood-burning oven. Condiments etc are provided, including the farm's own olive oil, which is delicious. Downstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. We used two double rooms which had huge, comfortable beds, lovely furniture, and shuttered windows. The downstairs bathroom has a toilet, bidet, sink and shower. We did not see the two bedrooms or the bathroom upstairs but I'm sure the photos accurately reflect those rooms because they represent the rooms downstairs perfectly. WIFI is available and is free. There is a flat-screen TV with a good selection of Italian channels and a couple of English-speaking channels. We missed having access to a news channel in English but otherwise we didn't miss watching television for two weeks - we chatted and read and enjoyed the views of the mountains in the evenings instead. There was no washing machine but there was a laundry room with a deep sink and a clothes airer which we used - the sun dried things in a couple of hours.
It would be wrong to review this property without mentioning the hosts - they added so much to our experience and were so warm and helpful. It was obvious they genuinely cared that we enjoyed our stay and they went out of their way to make my little boy welcome. They couldn't have done more for us and are very special people.
We loved our time here and I really hope we'll be back some day.
