Via di Gricigliano 58, Pontassieve 50069 Pontassieve (Florence)
The holiday farm is immersed in the splendid countryside of the Florentine hills and looks out over an immense valley. The 14th century house and its barn have been completely renovated in the original style and are flanked by olive-groves, vineyards and fruit trees. Close by there is a swimming-pool surrounded by secular olive trees. This farm house is a small family-run agricultural business and holiday farm which can accomodate up to 12 people. Traditional Tuscan crops are still cultivated on the hills surrounding the farmhouse. At dinner typical farm products produced on the spot, such as extra virgin olive oil, wine, fruit and home-grown vegetables can be tasted.
The original rustic character has been rigorously maintained during renovation work with particular care and attention to detail:
some walls have been stripped back to bare stone, showing the quality of the stonework. Likewise, the chestnut beams have been left exposed and the old tiles can be admired. The antique terracotta flooring has been preserved and is used in the main part of the building. The outside areas have been paved with local stones to recreate the original flavour of the farmyard.
A charming swimming-pool surrounded by secular olive trees has been installed with total respect to the environmental context. Next to the barn, under the loggia there is an old wood-fuelled oven, in perfect working condition where, during the summer months, typical dishes, like Pizza, are cooked to the delight of our guests.
Breakfast is provided for the guests in the dining-room on the ground floor of the farmhouse.
The guestrooms all bear the names of the places where, in the past, the various activities linked to work on the land, were carried out.
The Hayloft is a double bedroom, with a mezzanine floor, housing a private bathroom and heating system. It looks out onto the old pergola and has been designed to be suitable also for disabled guests.
On the ground floor of the farmhouse there is also the Potter's Wheel room, a double bedroom with bathroom and access for the disabled. The ground floor also houses the reception desk, the dining-room, the kitchen, the wine cellar and other working areas.
On the second floor there are three large bedrooms, the Dove-cot, consisting of two interconnecting rooms, the Granary and the Vinsantiera, the place where the Tuscan farmer produced the fine dessert wine Vinsanto.
Each room has a private bathroom and heating and offers a splendid panorama.
Situated only twenty minutes from one of the world's most beautiful cities of art: Florence with the Ponte Vecchio, Duomo and the Galleria degli Uffizi.
Fiesole as well is only a stone's throw away. A visit to this charming town is a must, both for its Etruscan and Roman remains and for its monuments such as the Cathedral, the Church and Convent of San Domenico, founded in 1400, as for the Badia Fiesolana where an elegant early renaissance cloister has been preserved.
The surrounding hills offer various walking opportunities with well signposted, graded walks, hiking- and biking tracks for relaxing excursions. A short trip takes to the monastery at Montesenario, to the 12th century sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso and numerous other places of historical interest where it is possible to find traces of a thousand-year heritage.
For those who are keen on horse-riding, the Corte Chiarese Riding Centre, only a few kilometres away at Bivigliano, offers both private lessons and fantastic rides through the beautiful Florentine hills.
