Via Pietra a Padule, 5102 - Loc. Massaciuccoli -, Massarosa 55050 Massarosa (Lucca)
The farmhouse was established alongside an old customs house of Lucca, which was converted, at the end of the C18th, into a hunting lodge with an attached farm. The farm is devoted to the production of cereals, corn and grain and the rearing of livestock (cattle and pigs) and horses (for riding). It lies within the borders of the Massacuiccoli Migliarino San Rossore natural park and is subject to strict environmental regulations for the preservation of animals and plants. The region lies within the famous Versilia coastal area and is defined by its countryside, its hills, its lake and the sea. Its activities include farming, with livestock and horses. The area is noted for its archaeology and its fine arts.
Accommodation at the holiday farmhouse is either in self-contained flats or in rooms with en-suite bathrooms, with access in either case to common areas where breakfast is served. The rooms are beautifully furnished in traditional style.
There is a large swimming pool. Horses, bicycles, a mini-football ground and an outdoor barbecue are all available and there is easy access to the sea, the lake, the hills and archaeological sites. The drinking water is mineral and light. At the same time the Casa Rossa continues to operate as a full working farm.
The farmhouse is conveniently located for Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno and Viareggio, with easy access from main roads (the highway and the Aurelia highway) and close to Galileo airport at Pisa and the ports of Livorno, Massa Carrara and Genoa.
This area around the lake of Massacuiccoli, once fine hunting country, was much loved by the celebrated composer Giacomo Puccini, who created some of his most famous operas in his home at Torre del Lago. Other well-known artists were similarly inspired by the conditions they found here.

We had a wonderful time at Bonifica della Casa Rossa; a simply gorgeous premises with spacious apartments and rustic decor. It was the perfect place to unwind and relax. Gina, our host was very friendly and easy going from the very beginning and made us feel right at home. She also kindly offered us a more spacious apartment when we arrived as it wasn't too busy during our stay at the farm. Breakfast was delicious and light with plenty of fresh fruit, baked bread, prosciutto and cheese and Italian pastries and we were always greeted by friendly kitchen staff and the family of dogs that live on the farm. Great place for couples and families and is close proximity to Lucca, Pisa and lots of cute little beachside towns like Viareggio. Would love to come back again soon! Grazie Mille Gina! Amy & Sun
