The agriturismo
An agriturismo in the Chianti Classico hills, 7 km from Castellina in Chianti, between Florence and Siena, in a raised position at the heart of Tuscany.
Completely nestled in green countryside, the property - owned by the current family since 1842 – comprises farmhouses and 95 hectares of land, home to vines, olive trees, crops and woodland.
The farm practices “integrated pest management”, producing high quality wines, typical vinsanto, outstanding extra virgin olive oil and grappas.On arrival guests receive a free bottle of fine wine.
The accommodation
The agriturismo offers 3 twin rooms (double, or two single beds), and 3 triple rooms, all including bathrooms with showers.
There is also a suite comprising two rooms and two bathrooms (one with bath and one with shower) for 3 or 4 guests.The second room (only accessible via the first room) is a tower with a raised floor.
There is a single room on the ground floor with private bathroom (next to the room, but not ensuite), with use of the washing machine included in the price.
Each room can also accommodate two cots for children 0-3 years of age, and 1 or 2 single beds for children aged 4-12.
The windows are fitted with mosquito nets, and all rooms include electric fans and hairdryers.
Casa del Guardia features a large lounge-kitchen with electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine, fridge, television, stereo, double sofa bed and open fireplace; two large triple rooms with the option to add a fourth bed; two bathrooms each with shower, sink, bidet and WC, plus a washing machine, iron, clothes horse and utility sink.There’s a small outside terrace too, with barbecue and table and chairs, and you’ll also findan electric fan and mosquito net.Cots for children up to 3 years of age can be added to both rooms.
The apartment offers two rental solutions:Casa del Guardia Bilo (bedroom and bathroom) and Casa del Guardia Trilo (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms).
Villa Fermentini dates back to the 17th century.On the ground floor:a 110 square metre lounge with original stone fireplace, satellite TV, radio-CD player and DVD player, and a spacious kitchen with dishwasher, electric oven, fridge, toaster and coffee machine.
Single room with washing machine and bathroom with shower suitable for disabled guests.
On the first floor:3 double bedrooms with double beds (one room can also be set up as a twin room).Triple room with bathroom with shower.A 2-bedroom suite for 4 guests, with 2 bathrooms, one with bath and one with shower.
There are electric fans and mosquito nets in all bedrooms.Each room can also accommodate 1 single bed for children under 12, and 1 or 2 camp beds for children up to 3 years of age.
2 camp beds are available free of charge.
Activities and surrounding
The agriturismo offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, birthday barbecues and cookery classes. You can also enjoy half board and full board packages in collaboration with partner restaurants just a 5 minute drive away. A chef is available.
Also upon request, guests can take part in wine and olive oil tasting sessions, and tours of the farm and the historic wine cellars are available too.
The 14 x 7 m swimming pool is 1.40 m deep, but includes a 0.6 m deep section which can be separated off from the rest of the pool on request (for use by children, disabled guests and the elderly). A 200 m2 terracotta solarium surrounds the pool. The pool is open from the beginning of May to the end of September. In April and October, swimming pool access is not guaranteed.
The owners will provide you with a small personal guide containing useful information for your stay (the best restaurants and pizzerias, riding centres, fishing lakes, where to go shopping, popular local initiatives, mini-courses for wine-tasting and oil-tasting etc) and a list of events taking place in Tuscany and in the provinces of Florence and Siena in particular. This service is updated weekly online.
The agriturismo is at the centre of Tuscany, at the heart of the Chianti Classico hills, close to ancient abbeys, old castles and the medieval hamlets of Gallo Nero: a 20 minute drive from Siena, 30 minutes from Florence, 15 minutes from San Gimignano, not far from the Rapolano spa centre, Volterra, Lucca, Pisa and Arezzo.
