HORSE RIDING HOLIDAYS 

Quarantallina is an ancient farmhouse situated on top of one of the very suggestive hills of the Sienese country, a few kilometers from Montalcino and overlooking a natural terrace with a very suggestive scenery, that allows you to enjoy your holidays. In the outside area is situated the swimming pool and a small hot tub. 

The riding school is 600 metres walk from the Agriturismo and it offers lessons and trecking for beginners and expert riders from 1 hour of horse riding tour till treckings of more days. For the children there are the lovely Pony Shettland. All horses are in natural managment.

The double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms are located on the first floor of the main farmhouse and enjoy an excellent view. They are furnished with very good taste and are provided with mini-refrigerator. There is also a common room for use by the bedrooms guests with fireplace and television, where it is possible to taste the flavours of a tasty breakfast. The bedrooms are equipped with heating.
 

The apartments are situated in the main farmhouse and enjoy an excellent view. They have independent entrance and a private furnished garden to enjoy dinner outside in summer. Appaloosa and Paint are furnished with taste and equipped with modern facilities, satellite television, washing machines and heating.
 

The apartment Appaloosa (about 80 SQM) for 4/5 persons is located on the ground floor with a kitchen/living room, a twin bedded room, one bathroom with shower and window. At the first floor, reachable through a staircase,  there is the double bedroom with extra bed.

The apartment Paint (about 60 SQM) for 2/3 persons is located on the ground floor with a kitchen/living room, a single bedroom and one bathroom with shower and ventilator. At the first floor, reachable through a staircase, there is the double bedroom.
 

The apartment  Quarter (about 120 SQM) for 6 persons, occupies the separate barn, completely restored according to the country Tuscan tradition. It is located in front of the swimming pooland has an independent entrance and a private furnished garden. It’s equipped with modern facilities, satellite television, washing machine and heating. At the ground floor there is the kitchen/living room with fireplace, two double bedrooms, both with private bathroom. At the first floor, reachable through a wooden staircase  there is the double bedroom with private bathroom.

Located in the Tuscan countryside near the city of Siena, Quarantallina is the perfect place for those willing to discover the many artistic, cultural and natural attractions of the area.

The Sienese territory offers a myriad of choices.

For lovers of art and culture, we set out from Buonconvento, one of today’s most beautiful Italian villages, with its fourteenth-century town walls and its Sacred Art and Sharecropping museums, located 5 km from the Holiday Farm. At the same distance rises the Etruscan village of Murlo, with finds on display at the local museum.

North of the Holiday Farm there is Siena, famous for its Palio horserace held on 2^ndJuly and 16^th August, not to mention the Cathedral, the Piazza del Campo that is unique worldwide, and the many alleys that run across the town.

Going south we find Montalcino, renowned for its Brunello wine, Pienza, the hometown of Pope Pius II, and Bagno Vignoni, a medieval village famous for its hot springs that date back to the Roman era. We also recommend visiting the extraordinarily beautiful abbeys located in the area, like Sant’Antimo, Monte Oliveto Maggiore, and San Galgano, and the chapel of Montesiepi with its sword in the rock. The artistic territory further expands southwards, with San Quirico d’Orcia and Montepulciano, and northwards, with Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, Volterra and so much more.

For lovers of nature there are many roads and paths that can be travelled on foot, by bike or on horseback. Buonconvento can be reached from the Holiday Farm through the dirt road of the Piana area, also identified as part of the “Eroica” cycling race route for bike lovers, or through another dirt road heading towards Murlo.

We also suggest the road connecting Murlo to La Befa and identified as the “vecchia ferrovia”, that is the route of the “old railroad” that served the Murlo coal pits.

The possibilities are endless, also owing to the numerous, stunning horse riding trails across fields, valleys and castles… it all makes you feel like a film star!

For spa lovers,the Bagno Vignoni and Rapolano Terme resorts are easy to reach and offer a source or wellbeing for body and soul.

For sea lovers, the Tyrrhenian coast is at a one and a half hour drive from the Holiday Farm and we suggest an outing to the Sterpaia Park for its clear waters, wide beaches and untouched wilderness, or the Regional Park of Uccellina in Alberese, characterised by lovely Mediterranean scrubland. After visiting the park, a dip in the sea is a perfect way to end the day!

For wine lovers... this land boasts numerous DOC wines, like Brunello, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti Colli Senesi, Montecucco, etc… Many wine estates open up their cellars for guided visits and wine tasting. Guided tours can be booked at the Holiday Farm.

Events in Buonconvento

• Things of the past over the Easter holidays with antiques market.

• Threshing under the town walls in late July, a historical re-enactment demonstrating how threshing was done in the 1930s and 40s, with people wearing clothing of the period, and the machinery and farm tools in use at the time.

• Sagra della Val d’Arbia in late September, a festival with dinners in the village districts, music, shows, market stalls, etc.
