La Concia

The house is located at the foot of Etruscan Vetulonia, where the Prilis Lacus of the Romans began to merge with the first spurs of the hills, in an area where olive trees and vineyards define the landscape along with thick forests that mark the hills. Here we offer hospitality in 3 rooms furnished with family furniture and guests will not be customers in any hotel, because you will dine all together at the same table. In the structure we try to respect the landscape and the colours of the Maremma, refusing the banalization of the English lawns and the squared pools. Thegastronomic offer tries to recover the traditions almost lost with the bread-making with flours of ancient grains and the rediscovery and the use of spontaneous herbs in the kitchen.

Podere La Concia is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, in the plain below the hills of the Etruscan Vetulonia. The farm, located in a central position with respect to various points of environmental, cultural, gastronomic and tourist interest, has been operating as a holiday farm since 1994. A map of Lorraine dating back to 1822 already mentions a "little house of the Tannery" at the foot of the village of Giuncarico: probably this building was a workshop, a tannery, and hence the name bequeathed to the farmhouse; today the building, well restored and furnished with old family furniture, is also the home of the managers and, together, houses the farm. Tourists are therefore guests, they live in the house and, if they choose to dineon the farm, they dine with the owners.

The farm can accommodate up to six people (three bedrooms and two bathrooms) and offers them the possibility to choose between half board and the " bed & breakfast " formula. The kitchen is one of the resources on which we focus more, with the prevalent use of farm products ( especially the oil produced from our olives), the rediscovery of the use of herbs and wild herbs , attention to a natural food and wine offer, linked to local customs and the recovery of the kitchen "home".

The farmyard animals are another element that characterizes La Concia and guests can also bring their pets on holiday.

The Maremma is the southernmost region of Tuscany, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the volcanic cone of Amiata. A land of ancient civilisation, where the Etruscans and Romans have left unmistakable signs of their passage, the Maremma is the land of wide open spaces (the Uccellina Park , the endless countryside, the woods, the wild hills), the place of perched cities and the land of water (the marshes, the archipelago). The farm is an excellent starting point for excursions on foot and by bike (both city and mountain bikes) while by car it is easy to reach the Etruscan town of Vetulonia with its small but very rich museum, the medieval villages of Montemassi , Roccatederighi , Caldana, Montepescali and the splendid Massa Marittima, the Gavorrano Mineral Park, one of the geoparks recognised by Unesco, Castiglione Pesca di Massa. Castiglione della Pescaia, with its beaches and the wetlands of Diaccia Botrona, the beach of Cala Violina where the sand plays, Grosseto with its walls, the Maremma Park. In less than an hour you can reach the Calidario thermal baths of Venturina and Petriolo, the lagoon of Orbetello and Monte Argentario, the Ombrone valley with its villages, Capalbio and the Tarot Garden and, a little further away, Saturnia, with its beaches and wetlands. Saturnia, with its thermal baths and the Gorello waterfalls, the cities of Tufa (Pitigliano, Sovana, Sorano and the rocky city of Vitozza) and the towns of Amiata.

Among the many opportunities to practice sports in contact with nature, we would like to point out the kitesurfing and windsurfing on the beaches of Marina di Grosseto and Castiglione della Pescaia, golf on the courses of Pelagone and Punta Ala, sailing with the marinas of Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Marina di Grosseto and Puntone, cycling on and off the road, as well as equestrian centers and stables.

But the farm is also central with respect to centres of absolute touristic and cultural value, which can be easily reached even for one-day visits: Piombino with the embarkations for the island ofElba is 50 km away, Siena, Montalcino and the Val d' Orcia, Tuscania and the Etruscan and medieval Tuscia can be reached in an hour, while Pisa, Arezzo and Volterra are a little further away; and in two hours by car you can reach Florence, Lucca and Rome.
