The agriturismo

An agriturismo in the Taverone Valley, in Licciana Nardi, a valued nature spot, inside the Malaspina Castle, a spectacular structure dating back to medieval Lunigiana.

The fortress was once used to defend the fields and their produce, but in the 1500s it became a summer residence, which was eventually abandoned before being salvaged in a careful renovation process.

The accommodation

The renovation created six rooms and two suites, with TVs, Wi-Fi and modern home comforts, whilst also preserving the architectural features and original materials, such as the historic embrasures, the wooden ceilings and the stone walls.

The accommodation offers stunning scenic views of the river and the surrounding woodland, or the ancient walls. The restaurant is housed in a sixteenth century lounge, plus two further beautifully decorated rooms, and serves typical local cuisine with a twist, prepared using zero mile ingredients.

Activities and surrounding

The farm mainly grows vines and produces fine wines, extra virgin olive oil and honey. The vineyard is home to nine varieties of grape, with spontaneous grassing, nestled amongst woodland and chestnut trees. Compost is used as a fertiliser, without the need for chemical products or herbicides. All of the farm’s crops are organically grown.

Guests can enjoy tasting sessions and guided tours of the wine cellars and the vines (subject to booking, additional fees apply).

The Cinque Terre, Lerici, La Spezia, Pisa and Lucca are all within an hour by road.

I would like to point out to you that if you choose to take a holiday on a farm you need to keep in mind that your needs can not be separated from the farm ones! otherwise we would not be a farm. I would like to recommend you a hotel, a B & B or another formula, where the priorities are different. I did not find any request for the restaurant in the reservation correspondence but I would have told you the same things anyway. It is not common that the greatest attraction by choosing our structure is "a enjoyable holiday based on Tuscan food" will better control the published content to be sure that our characteristics are more evident. In this period, the weather conditions are not very difficult to put a strain on us and our vineyard in biological management ... our day starts early, often very early; we love welcoming people with whom we are happy to share nature, history and serenity. The cost of the 4-course tasting menu is Eu 28 per person; We offer local and business products and I think people are usually satisfied with the taste ... but if you find half the proposals, at Eu 14, for a 4-course dinner with natural products in a sixteenth-century salon .... what to say? have patience but I do not know if I would go there !! However, we are not interested in proposing formulas "fast food" or "all you can eat" and I can not think of anything in our oasis that creates this expectation. Then if you think that going to the farm you can leave your dogs free in public areas, let them do their needs everywhere and let them bark in the room morning and evening as well as at the restaurant ... well maybe the only civil solution that comes to me mind to advise them is home. We are used to hosting pets but we ask beforehand if they are able, owners and dogs, to manage a coexistence that is respectful of the needs of others. In this case I limited my 2 dogs that, reluctantly, I kept at home (but not in the kitchen!) For the days of his stay. Normally our dogs run free and wagging even when there are canine guests .... we love nature and animals - all - sometimes we love less masters, especially arrogant ones.
