The agriturismo

A recently created family-run organic farming business in the Majella national park.

The farm proprietors are devoted to the ethical principles of farming and agritourism.

The natural environment in which the farm is set provides a superb panorama from the Majella mountain chain to the River Orfento valley and the Celestino V Hermitages.

The accommodation

The complex is formed of several antique barns that have been skilfully renovated and converted, in strict compliance with the characteristics of the original materials and construction techniques: Majella stone, timber, and cotto ceramic tiles.

The living spaces have been created without altering the original divisions. The six guest rooms and two mini-apartments with kitchenette and fireplace are extremely cosy and all have been furnished in a distinctive and different manner.
All the rooms are heated.

The organic restaurant accommodated in the original barn offers the seasonal fare of the Majella mountain and prepares mainly vegetarian food with a range of typical Abruzzi dishes.

Activities and surrounding

There are numerous walks and trekking routes that can be accessed directly from the agritourism centre (guests are provided with wayfinder maps): the hermitages of Celestino V; the valleys of the Orfento and Giumentina; visits to the Majella tholos dwellings, climbing, snowshoeing and cross country skiing (equipment for guests can be provided at the agritourism centre).

    An enchanting place where you will find welcome, views, good food and food really at km 0. Marisa & Co welcome guests and make them feel at home, offering conviviality and sharing. Dogs, even medium-large ones like ours, are well accepted in all the spaces of the house, dining room included, in the spirit of an authentic farm holiday.     We've seen a lot of agriturismi, but this one is really special. It is mainly run by Marisa, who takes care of her guests together with Patrizia, the cook. Marisa speaks very good English, so that guests who are not Italian, can be looked after to the best. Everyone dines talking at a table, including 92-year-old grandfather Paolo, a wonderful and touching storyteller. The cuisine is typically Abruzzo (cucina contadina) and geared towards slow food and km zero. The rooms are well equipped, thank goodness without TV (not in the guest room !!!!). And the landscape ..... to describe the place is not enough !!!! Decontra is a bit out of the way, but in 15 minutes you can drive to Caramanico, where you can - if you like - also take part in the passegiata. And it is also a hiking paradise. All in all, go and convince yourself!
