The agriturismo
In Bernate, a district of Casale Litta, between the Lake Comabbio, the Brabbia wetlands and Lake Varese, the farm has a history of 40 years.
Its main activity is dairy farming, producing 150,000 litres of milk from which typical local cheeses and artisanal ice cream are made. The farm shop also sells its own beef, pork, mutton, kid, poultry and rabbit. All products are served in the restaurant too.
There are lots of animals on the farm: cows, chickens and goats as well as deer, llamas, wild boar, ostriches, guinea pigs and horses.
The accommodation
The estate is perfect as a base for business trips or for those who wish to take a weekend break or holiday in the countryside, in the midst of lots of animals with a range of entertainment for children. The rooms have a private bathroom with shower, mini-bar and 20” screen TV.
The three rooms of the restaurant are spacious and there are also areas furnished with large tables for dining outdoors in summer.
Children can have fun in two play areas, with all sorts of toys - including large ones (wooden animals to play inside) - and in the vast fields.
Activities and surrounding
The farm is an educational farm recognised by the Lombardy Regional Authority. It hosts groups and school parties with special tours and creative workshops (guided tours of the farm, bread and cheese making workshops, on animals and their nourishment).
On weekends a variety of activities are organised for children and families. Guests can take donkey rides, learn how to make pizza and bread with all of the secrets of flour, live a day as a farmer or go on outings in the woods.
Varese, with its splendid SacroMonte, is a 15 minute drive away, while Lake Maggiore is about twenty minutes distance. Switzerland can be reached in half an hour, as can the site of Expo 2015.The city of Milan is 40 km away. Cycling enthusiasts can take the cycle and walking lane (all flat) which runs around the lakes of Varese and Comabbio, passing also through the Brabbia wetlands.
