Located in Mercatello sul Metauro, this pretty little hamlet boasts 7 stone houses, an historic tower and a chapel, as well as perfectly preserved medieval architecture. This is the place where Dante’s exile was decided.

The accommodation

Guest accommodation is provided in luxury or superior double rooms and suites, with TVs, bathrooms with showers, exposed beams, tile or stone ceilings and stone walls. You'll find internet connection in much of the communal space, as well as some guest rooms, and there are also beautiful collections of antiques on show.

You’ll find books for children and adults, a communal mini bar, games and activities and mountain bikes for hire.

Outside there is a scenic swimming pool (open from 15/06 to 15/09), a forgotten fruits garden, a certified organic vegetable garden and a scenic terrace.

You can dine in the restaurant (booking required) or opt for half-board or the à la carte menu with 2 different types of homemade pasta starters, 2 mains with Marche meat and side dish, and 2 types of dessert.

The agriturismo is ideally located for visiting Urbino, San Marino, Siena, Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi, Anghiari, Arezzo, the castles of Piobbico and Piatrarubba, the Furlo Pass (where eagles nest), the Frasassi Caves, Rimini, Fano, Urbania with the Church of the Dead, San Giustino, the San Leo, Gradara and Sassocorvaro fortresses, the hermitages of Fonte Avellana, Monte Casale and Camaldoli, and the Verna Sanctuary.

Following the Great Apennine Excursion trail takes you to the Luna Alps, surrounded by spectacular nature (54 species of orchid flower between spring and autumn). In the Castello della Pieve woodland you can spot deer, foxes, pheasants, wild boars, porcupines, badgers, barn owls, tawny owls, buzzards, herons and wolves. You can also visit Monte Nerone and the Sasso Simone e Simoncello Nature Park.
