Via Madonna della Libertà, 129, San Leonardello 95014 Giarre (Catania)
We are very close to the Etna, near Giarre. We offer hospitality on a 19th-century residence, with 12 hectares of citrus grove, organic certified in 2012, where we grow Navel oranges, Nova mandarins, lemons and pomegranates. We also own a strip of land nearby with olive grove, citrus trees, almond and pear trees.
The sea, between Catania and Taormina, makes this place perfect for a vacation in nature in one of Sicily’s most beautiful areas.
The owners warmly and cordially welcome guests: you may book B&B style or half-meal plan. Our breakfasts are hearty, with sweet and salty food, plus cold meats, cheese, grains, jams (homemade).
We offer 5 comfortable rooms and a mini flat. The rooms have period pieces, with private bath and shower, blow dryer, heating, desk, TV, air conditioned .
Our restaurant (open until 10 pm) offers seasonal specialties, genuine food, and Sicilian cooking, and you may dine outdoors weather permitting, refreshed by the air from the sea.
You may savor and buy our products: orange and lemon jam, extra virgin olive oil, almonds, fresh fruit (oranges, pears, mandarins, lemons).
Eastern Sicily is full of wonders, starting with the Etna, the highest active volcano on the European continent. Many attractions to see: natural reserves, hamlets and towns with a rich past like Taormina (Greek theater), Catania with its homes in lava stone, temples in the Anapo valley, the extraordinary baroque art in Acireale.
The land is rich in certified products: almonds, pistachios, oil, honey, citrus, prickly pears. Without forgetting very fresh fish and wines from the Etna.
Inform the agriturismo of any animals at the time of booking.
Owners will be held responsible for damage to property and persons.
We had a great stay at the farmhouse. We stayed 11 full days from 18 till 28 of september.
From the farmhouse you have a great view of Etna. Many times you see plumes of smoke coming from the craters and at night lava explosions if Etna is active, the sky is clear and you're lucky enough. From our room we also had a great view over the sea. Il Melograno (the farmhouse) is at the edge of town on top of a great hill overlooking everything. There is a small road in between the houses that will take you all the way up to the farm.
Behind the farm is a nice large orchard with many lemon trees, pomegranates and more. It's a nice little walk with again a great view of mount Etna. The room was cleaned everyday. One time the linnen was changed as well.
The breakfast was very good with many deliceous local products and home baked pies by the owner.
Darwin, the manager, was really great. He showed us arround and gave us many good tips about the surroundings and where to go as well. He's very friendly and helpfull so don't be shy to ask him anything or just start a nice conversation. :)
He also gave us a great tip of the bakery below where at lunch time they sell great Italian food for lunch for a good price. This was great during our last few days when we just wanted to relax and do nothing. We bought some lunch and ate at Il Melograno.
Also Il Melograno is very well situated. We recommend you rent a car for Sicily so you can go anywhere you like any time you like. The farmhouse is next to the main road, Catania is only 30 minutes away and Taormina with Isola Bella (great snorkling and relaxing location) only 25 minutes ago. Savoca, where the Godfather was recorded, is only about 45 minutes ago. I also recommend to go to Syracusa (go to the island of Ortigia), a beautifull city with few traffic and narrow romantic streets, about an hour away.
All in all we had a great stay. Due to circumstances the restaurant was closed for dinners, but there are plenty of other places to go to. Just ask Darwin. Mind you, many places open at 19.30. So be sure to have a late lunch.
Our room also had a small fridge and a big supermarket (Deco at Conforama, just Google Conforama) at about 5 minutes driving. Open from 9.00 till 21.00. So as I said, Il Melograno is well situated. I do recommend renting a car. You can park the car at the farmhouse, so just go all the way up the hill untill you can't go any further. There is a large parking place.
Darwin, Teresa and everyone, thank you so much for our wonderful stay. We had a great time. May we meet again.
Anna and Sander

Hard to find in the dark, but when you wake up the next morning it is a pleasant surprise. A beautiful building and beautiful, well maintained rooms. The very pleasant and committed hostess gives you many good tips. An excellent location to discover the north east of Sicily and of course to visit Mount Etna (we did from the north side what is less touristy). We also had a delicious meal at the location.
