Loc. Gello di sopra, 119 -, Camaiore 55041 Camaiore (Lucca)
An open door for pilgrims, going on the pilgrimsway, called the Via Francigena, since the 18th century, as well as an open door for those, who are in search of peace and serenity today. The farm, situated between the Versilian region and the Apuan Alps, is located in the Seimiglia territory, which abounds with history and tradition. It is the same peasant traditions which the farm pursues on its land which is cultivated according to biodynamic methods and procedures. Every day, fresh vegetables are being harvested, which our guests can enjoy by tasting them prepared according to traditional and local recipes. Elena looks forward to introduce you into the secrets of her pasta menues and home-made bread. While the three children wait for you with a big smile on their faces, Federico, the caretaker of the land and animals, takes you with him on an expedition in the uncontaminated environment, where you can go for a walk or simply relax.
To arrive at the farm Nico, situated in the old district of Gello di sopra, you take a gravel road, which is situated in the middle of greenwood and the tranquility of the forest, between vineyards and olive groves. Our guests can choose between a stay in an apartment or one of the two double rooms.
The veranda, over which the apartment Lupino can be accessed, illuminates the appartment’s wide internal dining room as well as its ancient kitchen, built of stone and with a fireside at disposal. The bedroom is composed of a cosy double room and a bathroom.
The roomBorlotto brings you back in the olden days with its tradition furniture and a rocking chair, where you can relax in company of a good book, which is at your disposal in a big chest. The room has a private bathroom.
The room Cannellino, which shares facilities with another room, faces the hillside which surrounds the agritourismus, immersed in the quiet of nature.
It is possible to add cot and bed for children in the apartment as well as in the rooms.
Every detail is important, which is why every room disposes of household linen produced by a small company of the area. Also the soaps are all natural and produced by locals.
Whether in the dining room or outside, the rich breakfast offers home-made cookies and bread, accompanied by delicious marmalade, fresh fruit of the season, bio-butter or Garfagnana-butter, biological honey, tea, milk or coffee.
The dining-hall’s convivial atmosphere is characterized and created by its big wooden table and ancient as well as homely furniture.
It is here, where our guests can taste the traditional dishes prepared by Elena in the evening. She uses only fresh vegetables which are either the biodynamic farm’s own production (located in Saltocchio near to Lucca) or products bought at the local peasant market.
There is no fixed menu; the land and the season propose what you will eat, offering the possibility to create a special menu according to the needs. Everything is being accompanied by biological oil of our own production as well as by biodynamic wine of the Lucca hills.
Usually, the Wednesday summer nights are dedicated to the pizza, its dough made and kneaded by hand and baked in a wood stove; an evening in company a bit different from the common evenings. Families are always welcome: the accommodation offers a lot of room outside where children can play safely.
Round the house, you can find the typical olive groves, vineyards and fruit trees, where the parents can relax and the children can enjoy playing with the numerous toys and in the different places which are at their disposal, for example a swing, a sandbox and a small pool in the summer season.
Immersed in the nature in a hilly countryside and surrounded by a green forest, the far Nicobio offers the possibility to go from the summit of the Apuan Alps to the sea of Versilia in one day only, passing by cities of arts such as Lucca and Pisa.
The children can play outside on the playground, swim in the small pool or have fun playing in the sandbox. They can go and get the fresh eggs of the day or feed the rabbits, always accompaniedand supervised by our dog Tobia, the four-footed guardian always in search of strokes. Go and visit Eva Luna and Galileo, the two friendly donkeys, who occasionally become your travel companions along the ancient mule tracks.
The kitchen is open to everyone who requests to learn from Elena the art of the doughs and pasta. The children can participate, too, kneading a bit the dough with their hands and cook together with Mum and Dad.
Furthermore, our guests can visit the cultivated land of the biological farm, which is located in Saltocchio, near to the ancient buildings of Lucca and along the Oil and Wine Street of hills of Lucca. Here, you can, if you like to, participate in the harvesting activities, also with children.
The territory of Seimiglia, in which the agriturism is situated in, offern different paths to walk and hike, also guided excursions can be requested. You can reach Trekking trails and paths in the Apuan Alps and the Alta Versilia in approximately 30 minutes by car. There are also short trails to do with children.
At a distance of 20km you can reach to coast of the Versilian sea and its typical towns such as Pietrasanta, Seravezza and Stazzema, all cities abound with art, history and culture.
Lucca, only a few km away, is the nearest city of arts and famous for its ancient medieval city walls. From Lucca, Pisa and Florence can be reached easily, also by train. Equally, the Cinque Terre should really not be missed.
The park of San Rossore and Massaciuccoli offers guided tours for families to discover the flora and fauna which characterizes the territory.
For the smallest ones, one can easily reach the park of Pinocchio, near to Collodi, where the children can revive the adventures of the famous puppet, accompanied by the other characters of the book. One shall not leave unmentioned the splendid park of the Villa Garzoni, only recently restored and opened to the public. It shelters the so-called “Casa delle Farfalle”, the house of the butterflies.

Elena and Federico allowed us to share their family life just as if it were our own, welcoming us with caring warmth.
We were looking for a genuine experience rather than a place to spend the holidays and expectations were not betrayed.

My partner and I had the most charming and relaxing stay at Nico. The farmhouse and surrounding land is simply beautiful and unspoiled, all you can hear is birdsong and the fireflies at night were phenomenal. Elena's cooking is lovely and the family dining a highlight of the trip. There's a supermarket nearby and Lucca's a 20 minute drive, but you will need to hire a car to access such a remote spot. We also loved the hike from the house. Just a lovely couple of days - we want to come back!
A wonderful place to stay. The numerous positive reviews capture it all - wonderful hosts, beautiful and tranquil setting, nice experience being able to share lodging with an authentic Italian farm family. More like staying with old friends as opposed to a guest house.
One caveat for the mobility challenged.... There are 15 or 20 steps to be climbed to reach the house. But for 99% of people that should be no problem.
