Loc. San Lorenzo , 52031 Anghiari (Arezzo)
Beautiful family-owned farmhouse where special attention is paid to hospitality, situated 1,5 km away from Anghiari town centre and 2 km from Sorci Castle, overlooking the countryside and the family vineyards.
The farmhouse is owned by the Testerini family since the early 1800s, and today they are among the very few local exclusive wine producers. At first, it was grandfather Marcello to run the farmhouse business, and now it is his son Francesco and grandchild Paola to keep on the traditional peasant work, both graduated in rural studies. Francesco and Paola pay much attention to preserving the tradition and the environment, integrating modern agricultural knowledge into the peasant life. In 1998 the farmhouse was founded by grandfather Marcello, thanks to his farseeing dynamic attitude – one of the first to be authorized to run a farmhouse in Tuscany.

Here in 1440 the famous battle between Milan and Florence took place, represented by Leonardo da Vinci in a fresco in Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, unfortunately no longer preserved. The town centre has also many ancient churches, palaces and museums, even with paintings of Luca e Andrea della Robbia, Tino da Camaino and Jacopo della Quercia. In the narrow streets there are also typical handcraft shops such as textile, ceramics, leather, stone workshops, following the Tuscan traditions. The most famous sights in the immediate surroundings of Anghiari are: abbey San Lorenzo, Santa Maria a Micciano and Santa Maria a Corsano, built in the VIII-IX century, and also the ancient church of Santo Stefano from VII century, the Galbino and Montauto castles, the Longobard village of Toppole, situated in a romantic position in the middle of an oak forest, Pianettole and Sorci castles (Sorci castle was once owned by captain Baldaccio d’Anghiari, serving Florence in the XV century and later murdered because of betrayal), Sansepolcro: beautiful renaissance town with ancient origins at only 5 km from Anghiari. Famous as the birth town of Piero della Francesca, who painted his most magnificent works such as “Resurrezione di Cristo”, “San Giuliano”, “San Ludovico” and “Polittico della Misericordia” displayed in the local Civic Museum. It also contains a famous painting of Rosso Fiorentino: “La Deposizione di Cristo”. Other sights that can easily be reached from Anghiari are: Monterchi, where visitors can see the famous “Madonna del Parto” of Piero della Francesca, Caprese Michelangelo: with the artist's birth house, Chiusi della Verna, whit the famous monastery where San Francesco received the stigmata in 1224, Cortona, lovely middle aged town with an important archeological Etruscan museum. Great historical towns in the area of 100 km are: Arezzo, Firenze, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Città di Castello, Gubbio.
Marvellous forests in Valtiberina, Alpe di Catenaria, overlooking the National Park of Forests Casentinesi and nature reserves like Monti Rognosi and Golena del Tevere.
Apart from history and handcraft it is absolutely worthwile trying the typical local food prepared from ancient recipes in one of the restaurants all over the place (tartufo, porchetta, bringoli with duck sauce).
