The agriturismo

Beautiful family-owned farmhouse where special attention is paid to hospitality, situated 1,5 km away from Anghiari town centre and 2 km from Sorci Castle, overlooking the countryside and the family vineyards.
The farmhouse is owned by the Testerini family since the early 1800s, and today they are among the very few local exclusive wine producers. At first, it was grandfather Marcello to run the farmhouse business, and now it is his son Francesco and grandchild Paola to keep on the traditional peasant work, both graduated in rural studies. Francesco and Paola pay much attention to preserving the tradition and the environment, integrating modern agricultural knowledge into the peasant life. In 1998 the farmhouse was founded by grandfather Marcello, thanks to his farseeing dynamic attitude – one of the first to be authorized to run a farmhouse in Tuscany.

The accommodation

Guests can be hosted in 3 apartaments: Girasole, Gelsomino and Poggio al Sole, counting all together 9 beds and additional beds if required. The 3 apartments are:

Gelsomino: apartment in old stone farmhouse on two levels: ground floor living room with kitchen, first floor double bedroom and bathroom.
Poggio al Sole: modern bungalow with large terrace overlooking the Sovara valley with family vineyards. Composed of 2 double bedrooms with bathroom and a large dining room with kitchen. Can be divided into two parts.

Further commodities are: parking, garden, barbecue, mountain bikes, public transport.

Activities and surrounding

The farmhouse is surrounded by vineyards and is perfect for visitors looking for relaxation and tranquillity. Guests will easily get inspired by the peaceful and calm way of living of the small ancient town of Anghiari: outstanding middle aged town with watch towers and walls from 1200. Here in 1440 the famous battle between Milan and Florence took place, represented by Leonardo da Vinci in a fresco in Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, unfortunately no longer preserved. The town centre has also many ancient churches, palaces and museums, even with paintings of Luca e Andrea della Robbia, Tino da Camaino and Jacopo della Quercia. In the narrow streets there are also typical handcraft shops such as textile, ceramics, leather, stone workshops, following the Tuscan traditions. The most famous sights in the immediate surroundings of Anghiari are: abbey San Lorenzo, Santa Maria a Micciano and Santa Maria a Corsano, built in the VIII-IX century, and also the ancient church of Santo Stefano from VII century, the Galbino and Montauto castles, the Longobard village of Toppole, situated in a romantic position in the middle of an oak forest, Pianettole and Sorci castles (Sorci castle was once owned by captain Baldaccio d’Anghiari, serving Florence in the XV century and later murdered because of betrayal), Sansepolcro: beautiful renaissance town with ancient origins at only 5 km from Anghiari. Famous as the birth town of Piero della Francesca, who painted his most magnificent works such as “Resurrezione di Cristo”, “San Giuliano”, “San Ludovico” and “Polittico della Misericordia” displayed in the local Civic Museum. It also contains a famous painting of Rosso Fiorentino: “La Deposizione di Cristo”. Other sights that can easily be reached from Anghiari are: Monterchi, where visitors can see the famous “Madonna del Parto” of Piero della Francesca, Caprese Michelangelo: with the artist's birth house, Chiusi della Verna, whit the famous monastery where San Francesco received the stigmata in 1224, Cortona, lovely middle aged town with an important archeological Etruscan museum. Great historical towns in the area of 100 km are: Arezzo, Firenze, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Città di Castello, Gubbio.

Marvellous forests in Valtiberina, Alpe di Catenaria, overlooking the National Park of Forests Casentinesi and nature reserves like Monti Rognosi and Golena del Tevere.

Apart from history and handcraft it is absolutely worthwile trying the typical local food prepared from ancient recipes in one of the restaurants all over the place (tartufo, porchetta, bringoli with duck sauce).

Events and Festivals: 1) Anghiari: Handcraft exibition, Tovaglia a quadri, Palio della Vittoria, Festival Musicale, Estate dei ragazzi; 2) Sansepolcro: Palio della Balestra; 3) Arezzo: Giostra del Saracino; 4) Cortona: Under the Tuscan Sun.

Wonderful hospitality and welcome! Apartment clean, nice, characteristic and equipped with what you need: it seems to be at the home of a special grandmother, that of fairy tales.
Cosetta is a force of nature in Tuscany and there comes the desire to go and live there! Thank you for everything with infinite sincerity! Paola

We spent a week with our cat in the apartment Matilde Sunflower. We had a great time. Very clean, nice in compliance with the simplicity of the environment. The outdoor area is really nice, full of flowers and with games for children, deck chairs, tables ecc.La quiet location is great for getting to the city of art, visit monasteries and enjoy views bellissimi.Peccato that the website does not show photographs could better illustrate the farm as it deserves.
