On the hills of Valsamoggia, between Modena and Bologna, Fattoria Quercia offers Bolognese dishes, vegetarian recipes and menus for allergy sufferers; bed and breakfast and organic farm wine. The buildings that houses the restaurant and the rooms are located in a central position, thus dominating the farm. The rooms have been created from the renovation of the old barn. Four of the six rooms are on the first floor and two on the ground floor (one is equipped for disabled), all with en suite bathrooms. They are finished in wood and furnished with antique furniture.
The restaurant is located in the main building and is composed of two rooms: a smaller and more cozy with a fireplace that warms it. The other, larger, is situated in a panoramic veranda and for this much appreciated. In total about 40 seats at the table.
On the ground floor of the barn, where once was the stable, there is a large hall used for various uses such as business meetings or small conferences, for which there is adequate equipment, courses, or even parties and ceremonies.
Outdoor there is ample space for play and cozy corners for conversation. The rich botanical garden offers lovers of the area, the view of plants and flowers, especially in the spring, shows an explosion of colors and scents. High on a meadow there is a swimming pool to cool off on hot summer days, a ping pong table and a target for archery.
On request the owners organise cooking classes to learn how to make pasta and bread, nutrition classes and courses to learn how to identify medicinal plants. It is possible to join wine tastings with wines of the Colli Bolognesi DOC or cheese with goat cheese or vinegar making with the traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena.
In the farmhouse surroundings guests can take short walks or tackle more difficult routes. In the immediate vicinity there is the beautiful valley Samoggia with its tower houses and castles and its distinctive landscape of gentle valleys and steep ravines.
A must see are also the city and the Etruscan Museum of Marzabotto, Vignola with its castle and old town, the Fortress of Matildea Bazzano with the archaeological museum where you can find prehistoric remains in the Abbey of Monteveglio of what was once the most impregnable fortified town of the whole territory. No more than 100 km away guests can reach the art cities of Bologna, Modena, Ferrara, Ravenna and Florence for a full day excursion.

Our ferry from Greece to Ancona arrived 3 hours later than scheduled which meant that we arrived at Fattoria Quercia at 10:30pm tired and hungry. We weren't expecting much upon arriving apart from collapsing into a bed for the evening, but were instead treated to a lovely home cooked authentic Italian meal with locally produced red wine - certainly a massive improvement on the emergency pot noodles we had in the car that we thought would be our only option. This was followed by a great night's sleep to prepare us for the next day of travelling. Anyway, we had a lovely one night stay as part of our return journey to the UK and would definitely recommend this Agritourismo.
